New translation of Bible uproar
Bible Too Liberal? Conservatives Say Yes
By Anne Miller
(Oct. 6) -- Debates between conservatives and liberals are going Biblical.
A collaborative online project seeks to update the Bible with a more conservative translation -- and has drawn the ire of less right-leaning bloggers and columnists.
The Conservative Bible Project is the brainchild of attorney and teacher Andy Schlafly, a son of conservative standard-bearer Phyllis Schlafly. His Bible-related Wiki, which allows contributors to post information, comment on others' and suggest tweaks or fixes, went up this summer.
The project quickly drew fire.
"These right-wing ideologues know better than the early church councils that canonized Scripture?" So asked Rod Dreher, a conservative blogger for Beliefnet. "They really think it's wise to force the word of God to conform to a 21st-century American idea of what constitutes conservatism?"
Schlafly said he aims to counteract modern translations, not edit the Bible.
"I think liberal bias was less of a problem in older translations," he said. "It's refreshing to read anything that is free of liberal bias, and the Bible is the most well-read book in the world, so that should be the first thing to clean up."
As an example, he cited a recent church service he attended near his New Jersey home.
"There was a reading from the gospel, and the pronoun used to refer to a child in this translation was 'it'," he said. "So this translation of the gospel referred to a child as an 'it,' a thing. And that is liberal, it's offensive and it's incorrect."
The 10 commandments of the project include avoiding unisex or "gender inclusive" language, being concise (Lord, instead of Lord God) and expressing "free market parables."
Meanwhile, a Time magazine writer called the project "insane." A Salon writer suggested a few sarcastic entries of his own.
Schlafly counters that his critics "are liberals who are unhappy that their game is up." And a few dozen people have already logged on to help craft the new translation.
Schlafly predicts the conservative version will be completed, and available for a publisher to download and print, in about a year.

Well back when the bible was written it was very important to have the male gender be the dominant. Nothing liberals can do about that, just the way it was and sill is in certain parts of the world. No hiding ones head in the sand will change it.
When the Lord said---by this time next year you will be blessed with a son, not a child or an it, and that was more of a joy to the parents. Sons were very important to parents since they were the ones who took care of them in their old age. When God promised a son they would be happy, promising a daughter would be no reason to rejoice. Not PC I know but accurate.
I see no reason to change the history of the bible and that is what the PC people are doing. We will lose the understanding of how things were back then and miss the main lesson of the scriptures.

How do we know for sure they haven't already been changed to make males dominant?
We don't know what the true book said it's been re-written and re-translated umteen times by now.

We know by studing history of the time. Just look at those areas today. Males were and are dominate.
I guess you have to believe the Holy Spirit and the promise of God that the bible will always have God's protection and will withstand all assult against it. It has had more to overcome than PC in the past. Many have tried to ban it all together and it is still the most read book of all time.

As it will withstand this attempted assault as well.

It doesn't make sense that God would reveal His word to us then let it be all messed up. The bible may have been re-written in other languages but I believe God has power over it and it is essentially His words.

And my kids believe in Santa Clause...doesn't make it true.
Fact is you don't KNOW for a fact it's his word opposed to some drunks who sat around a fire thinking 'wow we can control the masses if we say God wrote this..yeah buddy!'...

understood....
BUT, you also wouldn't understand nor believe the bible to be true unless you believe that God is God, and that the bible is his Word, and that's just simply the way it is, the fact, the truth, you would have to be a believer to understand and just simply believe that it is truth. If you don't, then you don't...
From a believers point of view, you would believe that God will protect his word(the bible).
And if you don't believe, then yeah, you would think that it would be written perhaps by "some drunks who sat around a fire". Not being hastey, just trying to make a point.

Isn't there a scripture in the Bible about it being wrong to add too or take away things that are in the Bible?

revelations 22:18-19 (NIV)
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
