How did they expect her to improve without feeding her. She would get weaker and weaker. My husband has copd and once he had a bad spell here at home and couldn't eat much. He got really weak till we got him ensure that he could drink because he didn't feel like eating. What I'm saying is without food he was getting weaker which made him feel a lot worse. I'm glad you're fighting for better health care for your mom. Its sad that they let her lay there with nothing to eat and didn't at least give it to her with an IV. Don't give up on her and if they wont treat her right move her to a different hospital if you have too. Everyone deserves the best treatment they can get. I'm praying that her copd improves to the point that she can live with it at home comfortably or its healed completely.

Unhappy my mom

The hospital decided today without informing anyone until after the fact that she needed to be tubed. They said she wasn't doing well enough on the bipap.
I was there for 3 hours yesterday and she was doing well on the bipap except for her blood pressure was high and that was because they cut way down on her anxiety meds.
If anyone lives in the area and can call the hospital (360-261-2000), ask for the 4th floor, critical care ward, dr. woods, patient name is carlene wilder, and tell them that they need to take better care of her.
Now that she's been tubed, they'll wake her up everyday and take her off her anxiety meds to see if she can breath. My mother will have a panic attack because this tube is down her throat and her breathing will become much worse so they'll assume she can't breath and the next thing they'll be doing the 'trach' thing and she'll never get better.
Please call if you can, pray if you can't or anything else that might help. Thank you so much!!!

Unhappy Update sort of...

Thank you again everyone for your prayers... My mother does have the tube down her throat and is being given a lot of anxiety medication. Her oxygen is good on the tube but apparently they have no plans of taking her off of it. I called the hospital today to see how she was doing and they said the doctor wanted to talk to me today so that scares me.
I call there every day before going up and every night before I go to bed just to make sure she's okay, and then I visit in between calls.
She opens her eyes occasionally and looks at me like she wants to ask me a question but she can't...
When we talked about doing everything to keep her alive if anything happened, I don't think either one of us thought we'd ever be in the position were in now. She always told me when she couldn't talk anymore, then I'd know she was dead, because she's quite the talker when she's able. Im very confused because I don't know if she'd want to 'live' like this but the thought of stopping her from living altogether makes me physically ill. Im starting to feel like the stress might kill me before I have to make any decision...
Please keep praying for my mother and tell god to let her know how much she's loved... I tell her everyday but im not sure she hears me.... Thank you...

Please believe your Mother does hear you. My daughter is an RN and Medical Care Manager. Many people have the same concerns that you are having. She says even when the patient doesnt have their eyes open and you may think they are not aware they can hear you. So just keep telling her you love her and believe. Praying for your Mother and for you.
