Good thoughts for your mom. I had my cath done 2 years ago as an emergency procedure after my heart attack. It's not a bad procedure. I was given some anesthesia that keeps you conscious but pain free during the procedure (versed and fentanyl I believe) you feel nothing and remember very little. They make an incision in your groin on the right side and then insert the catheter into an artery and thread it up to your heart. They use dye that can help them see if there are any plaque buildups or blockages.
If you have a blockage they can stent it or do minor repair.
Recovery isn't bad at all. I had to lay flat for several after and I remained in the hospital for a few days extra because of my auto-immune stuff. I had a big bruise in the groin area and some tenderness but it wasn't much. My dad had a cath last month and was sent home the next day.
Good luck to her.
ETA; Everytime the inject the dye, you get a warm sensation and it feels like you're pissing your pants...you're not and the doc will warn her right before he injects. I remember this most vividly. lol.
