Our son, car wreck
Our son had a car wreck last Tuesday night. He was going to his sister's house about 125 miles away. He dodged something , ran across the median and across 2 more lanes, swirled around 3 times and drove into a corn field. There was a ditch he went into and then the car flipped front to back and landed the right way. He broke his neck , c1 and c2, broke both femurs, his tibia, his ankle, 2 ribs and big toe. The chest exray showed he has emphysema in one lung making it useless. The other lung had bleeding between the lung and the chest wall causing it to be in the process of collapsing. They put in a chest tube to pull the blood out so his lung could continue to work. That is all the oxygen he was getting. They had to use the jaws of life to get him out of the car. He has a plate in his right foot that was broken.
Thankfully the paramedics put a collar on him or it would have killed him if he had moved his head. He went to surgery Wed where they put a halo thing on his head to keep his head from moving. They used pins and put his femurs and tibia back together. They repaired his ankle. His foot with the broken plate will have to wait. He had a pulmonary embolism and they put a basket in to catch any other blood clots that break off. He was on the ventilator for 3 days but is off and doing good now. There are so many things that could potentially go wrong. They had to move him from one hospital to another hospital and yesterday they moved him back to Birmingham. Please pray for him. God must have a plan for him to let him survive all this. Any one of so many things could have killed him. He said it has given him a lot to think about and that life changing events can happen in the blink of an eye. He is expected to walk again. He remembered everything until his 4 hr surgery. He was a little confused after that and asked if he was brain damaged and if anyone else was hurt. He can remember it all vividly now. The sherriff called and told my daughter in law it was serious. She called us because she couldn't drive she was so upset. Then they called back and asked if it was possible that someone else was in the car with him. The sherriff was telling the dispatcher what all was wrong that he could see and she forgot to put the phone on hold so my poor daughter in law who was all alone heard all that. Bless her , she is an angel. His wallet and his wedding ring are missing. They are the least of our worries. We feel so lucky and so blessed. Please pray for him.
