Burned plastic - How do I get rid of the smell??
I am a complete dunce. I admit it. We have a VERY small kitchen and little storage space. As a result, I had some pots & plastic containers (I won't ever do that again!) stored in the oven. Well, I forgot they were in there and turned on the oven to preheat for tonight's dinner. Well, about 1/2 hour later I get a whiff of this nasty plastic burning smell. I turn to look at the oven and and see smoke pouring out of it. I turned it off immediately. Then I opened the oven and there is plastic melted all over the pots/lids/racks, etc. and a small pool of it on the bottom of the oven is on fire! Of course by now the smoke alarm is going off and I'm grabbing the baking soda to put the fire out. Luckily it went right out. And as soon as the plastic cooled and hardened I was able to get it off of everything (3 Farberware lids, 1 small Farberware pot, 2 Visions lids and 1 small Visions pot and a baking sheet, which thankfully caught most of the plastic).
The problem now is getting rid of the NASTY smell of burned plastic before he gets home! I can't spray anything like air freshener to get rid of it because he dislikes even that. Does anyone know how I can quickly clear the air and get rid of the nasty smell?
Thanks in advance...any suggestions will be appreciated!
