wedding ring sets - do you have a preferred place to buy diamond jewelry?

Hubby has decided for our 15th anniversary that he'll get me a new wedding set... I've looked all over and seen the same basic rings at several places... but I am surprised at the price difference by location... who do you trust to sell you the best jewels at the most reasonable price?

Me, on the other hand, wouldn't touch a diamond with a ten-foot pole. Although I wore one for 4 years without losing the diamond (cooked, cleaned, raised kids, etc.), I would be afraid I would lose the gem. I just wear a band, by choice, but if I ever decide to get a gem, it would be something unique and not a diamond. And IF I was interested in such a thing, I too, would seek out our local jeweler but keep an open mind.

When I used to be fortunate enough to get diamonds my ex used to go to a local jewerler. I have heard that Jarod has some pretty awesome stuff.

Jarod is one of the most expensive and they do not haggle... but their stuff is definitely beautiful.

How do you find a "trusted" jeweler? I've only had one diamond, my first set. It was a chip and we bought it from a place that doesn't exist any more. We've never bought jewelry of any kind from a local cause we don't know enough about jewelers or their wares to know if we're being screwed over. We don't really know many ppl either, to know who to ask...

Thanks for the great advice guys.

This was a post my hippiechic on Facebook:

To every1 who will b buying a diamond for some1 this holiday season and for all those who have diamonds on their wish list...plz consider getting a synthetic one. Absolutely conflict free and just as beautiful! The HTHP lab method creates awesome diamonds...go check some out!

the synthetics are made from carbon just like natural diamonds. they heat it to high temps and pressure to create a diamond. its the same process a natural diamond goes thru just in a lab and a lot faster than in nature. A zirconia crystal is made with something other than carbon.

    ...and they are CHEAPER!

Yeah, I've spent a lot of time looking at them. Compared to Zales and Jarod and the couple of other sites I've looked at they are not even close to being cheaper. They're quite a bit more actually. We are looking at 1 to 1 1/2 carats tw. Every thing I've found in the fake diamonds is actually quite a bit more expensive than what I've found at the big box jewelers. Also, can't find anyone that sells them locally and I would never buy a ring w/out being able to see it on my hand... well, from the research I've read, there's probably quite a few locals that sell them, they just don't disclose it like they are legally bound to do so.

Prices vary wildly for diamonds because the stones are different. Some stones are cleaner than others and that costs as well as color costs extra. I think the jewelry exchange or store like them would be the way to go. They guarantee their stones will appraise for double what they charge. They also allow you to get full credit if you want to upgrade in the future.

    Me

All diamonds are not blood diamonds. Lots of diamonds are coming from canada.
