Opinions and a question
How many people know their children's blood type ? Am I a bad mother because I do not know off the top of my head ? I just got chewed out by a SIL because I am an "irresponsible" parent because I couldn't tell her
Now that we have established this - how do I find out ... cause now I am curious.

You can always donate blood and find out. I know on my sons hospital papers I was reading it says what his is, or maybe it was mine, I forget now. I guess maybe I should find out all of mine and right it down and keep it in my purse, so I won't be a "bad mother" either.

You are not bad mothers...even in case of emergency, they give o-, til they blood type them no matter
what mother or fathers say...i know, only because i'm o- and hubbie is o+, my body would build up anti-
bodies against an o+ baby and attack it...i had to take rhogam shots, with all to make sure the next child
wouldn't be harmed. All my babies were o+, except one, and he's o-, so he doesn't apply to rh factor, only
a female with the negative...well it does matter for blood transfusions, his body will reject it, but
it won't hurt the female with 0, a, ab + blood. A lot of people think type o is universal...no, only o neg...
Give + rh factor to a neg rh factor...almost certain death.

she screams to the doc what the childs blood type is...they will not take the chance, and bet their
careers on what you say!

Why is it any of her business? Sounds like SIL needs a hobby. Tell her it takes mere moments for an ER to do a blood workup to find out a blood type. What does she expect you to do, rig up an IV in your kitchen in case of an emergency?
Some folks just need something to gripe about. Your SIL is quite the human.

Tell your SIL she is full of crap. The ONLY reason I know my own blood type is from when I donated blood years ago. I actually called one of my good friends that has 5 kids and asked her what their blood type was and her reply was "red" - and she thought your SIL was full of crap too. You are a great Mom and it sounds like she is trying to compete with you and that is the ONLY thing she could find where he is "superior" to you in her little head.

No you are not a bad parent because you don't know that. My kids are in there 20's and 30's and I still don't know it. Like Carrolin said they aren't going to go by what you say. If I'm not mistake and they give the wrong blood it could kill a person, so they have to check.

my oldest 2 boys are A+ and my youngest is O+.... Like was posted above, I have 0- blood and they had to be tested in case i needed the rhogam(sp?) shot. that is probably the only reason i know.

You are not a bad parent for not knowing!
I only know my DS's because I asked when he was born. I didnt know my blood type up until my pregnancy (I was high risk and had a ton of blood draws). Its easy for me to remember because my DS has the same as me, O+. :-)

I have O+ ... DH is something + .... so all the kids are + ! Remember that much from HS biology ( TY Mrs Frost !) My mom is O- and she has enough "reserve" built up at the Bllod Bank that we could all have complete transfusions. When I had Mitey Mike she went and told my Doctor that if he need blood to call HER because she knew where her blood had been. LOL
