    panic attack

Have you ever experienced a panic attack? I am 66 and I have never experienced anything so awful in my whole life and I don't know what caused it. Yes lots is going on in my life right now but I have always been proud of the way I can handle bad things. But this was horrilbe, worse than depression and worse than physical pain. And I didn't recognize what it was. Anyone else ever experience this?

I had one last night over a spoon so don't feel bad. The spoon wasn't the issue it was where it was located at that had me in tears. I have been working on this kitchen remodle for over 10 months. We were "supposed" to start the tear-out on Monday but of course I got put off AGAIN. I spent last weekend movin everything I had in the kitchen into my dining room so when I went to get a spoon for ice cream & I opened up the drawer where I normally have my spoons & opened up an empty drawer I was D-O-N-E!

It happens to all of us at one time. Starbucks ice cream did work wonders.

My husband wanted to take the kids to the mountains of Arkansas... I have lived my entire life in the swamps of Southern Louisiana. I found out that I have a fear of heights, and curvy roads on mountain ridges, and looking down at the tree tops. Most of my vacation was a panic attack... hard to breathe, chest pains, nausea .... never going to to a mountain top again.

And I pick the next vacation destination.

Jolie I get like that when crossing bridges. I am okay if I am driving but if I am a passenger look out.

You can look up relaxation exercises online and it tells you what to do. You can practice them and learn how to breath to control them. Just look up panic attacks and I am sure you can get tons of info.

    Oh my...yes!!

After i lost my first son in 1983, i suffered for years...out of no where came this feeling of "surreal"...thought i was losing my mind, hyper ventilating to
the point that my hands would curl inwards, legs would buckle, and i'd pass out. I got so bad that if anyone was around me, it would escalate, like they knew i was "crazy", when actually they didn't notice anything...just me hitting the floor! I was only 19 at that time, ambulances called 2 times a week, docs
kept saying nothing was wrong...until i had a heart attack! You'd be amazed how emotions can effect you physically. Be careful for me hon, talk to a doctor, and anyone else in sight. I am also the one who can handle any bad
situation, i make it better for others, i had to comfort everyone around me
at the funeral...when in fact, someone should have gave me a glimmer of hope, or just a hug so that i could cry and not feel alone! I know this is not your situation, but you are hurting deep inside...with pain comes anger, denial, what if's, bargaining...once you get to acceptance, you can figure out
the "trigger" that caused this episode...i guarantee it's not one thing or two, years of built up stuff is usually the reason...okay i'm done crying now, yes i cried for me first...you need try it sometime, i have a huge shoulder, and i've loved you for years...you can call me at anytime, i will not judge. I pm'd you my phone #.

By the way, when i start feeling that way, i have a bag of trail mix...
I'm diabetic, so can't eat the m&m"s nor the banana chips...i pour some out in my hand, eat the nuts and raisens, pick out those i can't eat, put them back in the bag, shake it, and start all over again...i use the art of distraction,
    using all 5 senses..

    With heart,
    carrolin

Did you see this ad that was on this page? Good old ad that pops up when a topic is posted. Just post something and the ad will appear. LOL

I don't mind the ads if they don't hack my computer. I had spam sent out to my contacts lately so had to change my password. Otherwise, I ignore them or sometimes see one that interests me, like now.

Carrolin, thanks for the heart felt response. And Jolie yes that is what mine felt like. I didn't faint like Carrolin but felt like I wanted to. Yes it is stuff that is long inside me. And fear of the future with my husband's Alzheimers and my health. But it was just the worst experience of my life. Thanks everyone for their comments.

WOW, you really have a lot to deal with right now. I hope you can talk to your doctor about it all. There are support groups for both problems. The alz support group helped a lot when I as taking care of my mother and explained what she was experiencing so I could understand. It also helps to talk to others who are experiencing the same problems as you.
