Need some computer help please
I have been really busy around here with the move and the baby and trying to find a job that I have not had much time to do much on the computer but the kids have apparently gotten into something and downloaded something on here that I can not get off. It is called XP Security 2011
I have looked up on google how to get it off and I have tried everything I can find. I can not get it off.
If anyone can help me it would be great! I really do not want to system restore and loose everything on here and I am not sure if it would get rid of it but I can't think of another way. So please help me if you can.
Thank you

You can do a system restore and not loose anything. It only does a restore to the system files not changes to things like data files, pictures & such.

I ended up having to do a complete restore on the computer. I tried everything to get it off but it would not go away. So did restore
and it is gone. Now I just have to make sure I keep up on the antivirus things on it. Thanks for the help.

I use the free version of AVG anti-virus (http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage) and it works really well. I have it set to update whenever it needs to and it scans daily for spyware and viruses.

AVG doesn't scan for spyware. You would & should download spybot and malwarebytes and use both of those in addition to AVG. You can get both of those for free from www.cnet.com HTH

If it happens again, try CCleaner. My daughter got it on her netbook and it was the only thing that would remove it.

Malwarebytes & Ccleaner are the best. Also make sure you have your firewall turned on.
I don't like AVG or spybot...

The version of AVG I have does scan for spyware. I have had no problems with it. We also use the paid version of AVG at the school district where I teach and it does a great job for us.

AVG is not a good choice for spyware monitoring that is why I said you need spybot which does work very well and catches stuff AVG will not see.

SLance68, I have done some research this afternoon and you are indeed right.
I went ahead and downloaded Spybot and here is what I discovered:
AVG recognized 186,000+ spyware programs
Spybot recognizes 780,000+ spyware programs
YIKES! So I scanned my computer and Spybot came up with about 50 spyware programs on my computer that AVG missed. Thanks!
