Would you give gifts bought from a thrift store or garage sale?

Many years ago, I asked my "unofficial" foster child if she wanted either : A couple of new things or a lot more nice used stuff. She said used stuff was cool. I got her a beautiful swarksi (sp) crystal choker, never worn, from a barn sale, a SLR 35mm camera (from yard sale) and a flash (from St Vincent dePaul) a little black dress (Goodwill) brass goblets (St Vincents again) and a few more things which she loved!

My co-worker's daughter didn't have much for Christmas so she went to Goodwill and St Vincents, with a little bit of $$ and some elbow grease (she wiped them down with Clorox wipes) she got a bunch of working toys that were practically new! My co-workers granddaughter is only three so she doesn't care about new or used.

I have a girlfriend who likes to do crafts with shells. So I am giving her a gallon glass jar filled with shells, some from Goodwill, garage sales and going out of business sales
    I hope she likes them

So would you give nice used stuff as a gift?

    Heck yeah!
Especially if its something that the person collects.
Everything I bought for my sister and MIL came from the thrift store...then again, we are all big thrift store shoppers.

Things are tight in my area, with a lot of businesses closing, so lots of people went the thrift shop route here. Anyways, its not about the money spent or the gifts, its about the season. Even if you are not a Christian, its a time to celebrate family, love and fellowship

Honestly, No, I would not give someone a used gift for Christmas or a used gift at any other time.
Don't worry about what people think. They don't do it very often.

I hope for your sake, you never have to give a "used" gift.

Its not like everything at thrift stores or yard sales are "used".
My sister likes old globes, globes that were made before 1989, when the Cold War ended, its not like they are making those new anymore... so I have to buy them at antique stores or thrift stores.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as its nice. Wouldn't bother me to get used gifts either. I don't even mind when people recycle gifts as long as they don't give it back to the person that gave it to them. That would be embarassing.lol

I'm not going to say I never would... but I never have... I collect frogs and I have received a couple that various family members have found at thrift stores... You know what, I'm just glad they think enough of me to care... it doesn't really matter where it comes from.

I didn't blast anyone because they give used gifts. I couldn't careless if you go dumpster diving for xmas gifts, it's the persons choice giving the gift.

No worries Quaker, I've never given a used gift in my 38 yrs of being alive & I don't plan on starting. That is my choice.

If used gifts were so popular - Then why is it in the swaps people complain about getting used items? Why in the rules does it always state NEW.....I'm not the only odd ball who doesn't ONLY give NEW gifts.

No, I would not have a problem giving or receiving something used. In fact my DD collects bells and I got two of them for her for Christmas from Goodwill. It is the thought that counts. Tonight my niece gave me an ornament she hand painted for us and it meant a lot to me. It doesn't have to be new to make me happy.
