Anybody ever heard of a bruise moving down your leg?

Where my husband was operated on, the hip was bruised pretty bad. The bruise is moving down his leg. Its moved in a line from his hip to halfway down the back of his calf. I've never seen one travel like that before. Is that normal?

Could it be a blood clot or blood posioning? Is it painful oh wait he had his hip replaced so yes I would think he is in pain. Is he still in the hospital or is he at home?
I can ask my sister if she had this because she had her hip replaced in January.
Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your kids.

He's at home and it doesn't hurt at all. Just looks weird going down his leg like that. He sees one doctor Friday we'll see what he says abouit it then. He also sees the surgeon on the 24h. The nurse and physical therapist don't seem overly concerned so maybe they've seen it before. And I can't and everyone else can't believe he hasn't been in hardly any pain. He's not taking pain killers and didn't ask for them in the hospital but a few times. The nurses and doctor are amazed. He said it only hurts every once in a while if he does too much or moves wrong but its not unbearable. But shoot he spent the night here and all day till 9oclock the next night before going to the hospital and only took aspirin and a few hydrocodone I had for pain. He must have a high pain threshold.

When my husband sprained his ankle, the blood settled between his toes and turned black. We were told this happens. So when my son had knee surgery and it settled to his calves and ankles, we weren't too worried. It still freaked us out though.

Gravity naturally goes downward, so yes bruises going down his leg would be normal. If they get worse or don't seem to be lightening then he probably should be seen again.

I almost asked the same question 2 weeks ago after my Mom had back surgery. Her bruise started just below the staples and by the end of the following week it had moved down 2 or 3 inches. I thought I was just imagining it.

As for your DH not being in pain. I can relate. After I had my last bone graph on my arm I didn't take any pain medication. Simply it didn't hurt after it was fixed. My Dr. said it wasn't unusual that some people just are not in pain after a bone is repaired. Now itching is another story - those darn staples itched me to death when it was healing. Glad your DH isn't in pain and hope the nurses and therapists help him.

Funny you ask this question because I just had the same thing happen to me. I tripped over a baby gate and landed hard on both knees. The right knee had a dark purple bruise about the size of a 6-inch plate. As the first week passed...the bruise spread down my shin almost to my ankle. When I asked the doctor about it...he said that gravity was causing the blood to drain downward. It was really freaky as I had never had anything happen like that before.
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

My husband didn't have staples they used glue which the nurses said is good he doesn't have to have staples removed. His cut place is healing up nicely.

I hit my eyebrow on the soap dish in the bathtub, still haven't figured out how I did that, and the bruise started on the brow and slowly moved down my cheek.
