I don't think it is at all appropriate. It makes me wonder if they are saying crap now what they might say or do next.

I think if "crap" offends you then be warned highschool will really offend you. I live in the Bible belt and our teachers use the word "piss". I about died...lol. What matters is what your children are saying, not what others are saying. If they are taught at home that it is inappropriate in certain circles, then hopefully, your children will follow your teachings. I am not trying to downplay your feelings about this, but I promise you this is tiny compared to what you will face throughout your child's school career. I say pick your battles or deal with enemies.
The more you complain, the longer God makes you live.

I have worked in schools where the kids AND teachers curse. And the worst language offenders were the exclusive private college preparatory schools with a religious affiliation.
Anyway, heard mention on the radio recently of this. Kinda related so I thought you all might be interested.

If crap is the worst that the kids are hearing, then thank your lucky stars. My son just had a substitute teacher who called some girl in class a b*tch. I don't cuss at my kids, they aren't allowed to say shut up, but I also realize that you can't control what other people say. Was it appropriate? No. Will your child hear worse before they graduate from school? Heck yeah.
I think YankeeMary was right - pick your batttles.

While it wouldn't really bother me to hear a teacher say crap..heads would roll if a teacher called my daughter a *****!

Some children (not all) hear much worse at home. I agree w/YM pick your battles. This one is a small one that I wouldn't worry about, really. If the child knows "right from wrong" what they've been taught to do and not....then I think there's not a problem. Still, I think it wasn't appropriate for a teacher to say anything like that in a classroom. I've heard the word go around our niece's 2nd grade classroom already. However, to save her life she won't say it in front of me. The words "shut up" are NOT to be used anywhere around, near or within hearing distance of me. I would still hate to think to this day if I'd ever said that in front of my mother...even as an adult. Bodies would be flying in my house and hers....MY BROTHER WHO OUTWEIGHED HER BY 100 LBS. WOULD BE OUT THE WINDOW.

When everyone accepts/dismisses/minimizes the 'little things', it opens the door wide open for the 'bigger things'.
If people made a stink about 'crap'....then 'bi***' (and worse) would never be introduced.
The teachers are there to set an example, a good example. That's part of their job. If they want to be foul mouthed, they can do that elsewhere, they are no longer 'teacher' material IMO.

I know that you have children, I just can't remember the ages. I do however wish you luck going into the future if something like "crap" ruffles your feathers. Just wait until your kids come home and tell you the D.A.R.E. officer brought marijuana and crack to school to show them what it looks like...lol. Or better yet the teacher tells the class about her failing marriage...haha. I have one already graduated and one that graduates this year and I tell yah there isn't much I haven't heard or seen from the teachers or other students. I see your point and it makes sense but I have to say that the time to put a foot down about this type of thing was years ago. Crap isn't worth humiliating your child over, imo.

First, good to see you around Mary.
I'm not saying my kids should be sheltered. Absolutely have an officer show my kids pot & crack, etc.. Now they know to stay away from it when a "friend" tells them to try it.
As far as their own failing marriages being discussed by teachers. No go, not appropriate. It's not like they won't hear it elsewhere, but we need to let teachers and schools know that they are there to set good examples and clean up their act.
