maybe try calling Des moines at all the newspaper places and see if they can look up or if they keep old newspapers? Maybe put a post in the local paper where he was from/where it happened and just ask if anyone knows of anything, perhaps someone will and they will get a hold of you.

also, maybe call all the cemetaries, funeral homes (??) around the area, and start asking if so and so was buired here.......

Most newspapers keep all their old issues on Microfiche. They will probably charge you a fee for copies but you might have to go there to find the info. I believe the paper in Des Moines is the Des Moines Register.

We found the alot of Iowa papers online but they only go back to 2002 online.I mean Des Moines is only 8 hours away but I was hoping not ot have to go there. Bf dad is the only family left on that side and so no one knows anything about that side and he really wants to know so I guess Iowa here I come..

I got on the Des Moines lib website I have to have a pin number to look at micro film online..So I am guessing you either have to go there or be a local to get access to those things.
I am really wanting him to find info about his family but this is getting crazy.Anymore suggestions will be helpful.

Is there a phone # or email address for the library, maybe you can call or write and ask if there is a way they can help you over the phone -- the librarian might be kind enough to look it up for you and email it to you.

Before you drive 8 hours on a wild goose chase I would be on the phone to the local newspapers and ask them to look it up they do have researchers there on staff for stuff like this. You are more likely to get the stuff from the newspaper than the library. Libraries don't always keep old newspapers where the newspaper companies do. It will be a lot cheaper and probably a lot less work to do it that way than driving there.

Also try this link if you have his name and possibly where he died you might find some info there you only have to put in a last name and a first initial and hit search you can even try it without a first initial. Social Security Death Index Interactive Search

I would suggest googling the name, the year, with obit. and seeing what you get. Also, the geneology websites might be of help.

I would Google it first and see if you can get any information there. I just tried using someone I know who passed away years ago (early 70's) obit came right up. Also try their name for any court records that might be posted on the web. I also tried it on the same person and found a restraining order she had taken out, divorce decree.

I would also try calling libraries, newspapers before I'd be driving anywhere. If there is a local library where you live I'd try that if you can't get a resolution over the phone.

    Good luck.
