Thread: Are Message Boards such as BBF no longer relevant?

For me personally, I rarely visit this board, nor the other three of which I am a member. I have also found that these types of boards just seem to be dying out with regard to usage.

I find that Facebook fulfills my social networking needs, plus it keeps me in contact with real life friends. This isn't to say that I haven't made some good friends on this board. I've actually met a couple of people face-to-face and they are my FB friends as well.

What do others think?

I don't come here as much as I used to, only a few times a day now instead of constantly. I don't post much, only once in a while, but I lurk a lot.

I think all these 'things' have their uses. If I only 'spoke' with my 'real life' friends, I'd only be getting the views of a particular audience from a particular lifestyle. When conversing on BBF, there are many from various backgrounds, socio and economic levels, life experiences, etc......to me, it's a much broader audience.

But, I think like everything else, there are trends.

I use both still.

But on FB, if I really dislike someone, I can block them and never see or hear from them again. Or tell them **** off. And most of the msg boards I go to besides BBF have almost no rules at all and I like that better.

I come here maybe once a week. This isn't the same board I joined YEARS ago. They have taken away our freedom of speech which just pisses me right off (another thing "they" will remove). You used to be able to post, answer posts etc without worrying about the post being removed or whatever by people that say and do the same thing(but thats ok one sided posts are allowed). But now "they" wonder why their board sucks hmmm maybe it was some mods that ruined this site just saying.

Yeah because 'us mods' enforce the rules. That we don't make, by the way. And "we' don't think the board sucks at all. The owners don't get anything for having these forums, they are for the members benefit. They make their money from the BBS site and other ventures.

Oh and you don't have 'freedom of speech' to begin with on a privately owned board.

For those of you who like to call each names etc etc, there are many places like that, join one.

Sorry this thread had to take this direction. I'm not bashing this board at all. I just find that it doesn't meet my needs so much...probably because there aren't as many posts. And, I suspect the reason for that is that people are looking elsewhere for their networking...not because they don't like this board.

I joined this board in 2000, was banned because of my big mouth, grew up and have been back for awhile. I come here several times a day to see if anyone has said anything interesting. I don't do freebies anymore for personal reasons but feel that BBF is the best site online for freebies, should I want to do them again.

Change happens. It must or we stagnate. I think our likes and needs change as well. I think it all depends on what we're doing and where we are in our lives. I'd hate to see BBF and sites like it go down. I have a FB account but have few friends. And that's how I want it since I only signed up to make sure I could see pics of my granddaughters.
