A friend was going through some financial difficulty recently, and we made a nice food basket (shelf stable/non-perishable things like rice, beans, pasta, jarred sauce, canned goods) and a laundry basket with detergent, dish soap, cleaners, paper towels, and toilet paper. We got most of her things on sale or with coupons, so it ended up being quite a bit of stuff for not too much cost.

they will need most anything you can think of, because what wasn't burned by the fire will smell of smoke and need to be replaced. To this day I can't stand the smell of smoke.

What a great lesson this was for my 6 year old. I am glad to have found out what a generous spirit she has. She selected 3 different birthday gifts that she had not yet opened and gave them to this family. She also chose some very nice books off her bookshelf. I am so proud of her!

    you know also~~

Maybe they would enjoy just being together as a family right now and doing something, like going out to eat, a movie, bowling. So maybe a gift certificate some where? Or even a gift certificate to walmart or something so they can pick out what they want/need.

Im not sure who is in the family but dont forget the little things as well. Like hand sanatizer, batteries, candles, kleenex, pens, combs/brushes, razors, maybe some chapstick you know little things that nobody else even thinks about. And if there are women dont forget the pads and tampons and the such.

That is a great thing to do though I hope they get everything they need.
