Would you/have you let your child participate in BB or BS?

On another site I frequent, there was a post by someone who says that their child was molested by his big brother, as part of the big bro/big sis program.

So, it made me wonder what parents think about the safety of signing your child up for this. My son never had a need for the program, as he has a "big brother" who is a family friend, but younger. So, I never thought of it for us. If I was a single mom without a male around, I still don't know if I would have ever felt safe enough with it.

I was a big sister years ago, when I was single. Therefore, I know that the background checks and tests are thorough, but people can scam their way through anything.

Wink

No, I wouldn't sign my kid up for a program like this. JMHO.

Nope not me either. I don't knock the program as I know the intentions of it were great when it was started. But with the way people are just basically crazy there is no way i would ever trust it.

Yeah, it is sad that we can't trust nowadays. I recall (at 19) when I signed up to be a big sis, that it was ridiculous why they phoned my high school guidance counselor. Now, as a parent, I get all the background stuff. But you just NEVER know.
