I mean, I don't even know that many people, let alone want to hear all about what's going on in their lives if I'm just an aquaintance.
ITA!! I so agree with you! I had one incident where I had no idea who the person was and had no mutual friends. She said my name sounded familiar, and she just "wanted to meet new people", so she added me.

But the thing that really gets me is: Ex-boyfriends!! I have had 2 ex-boyfriends request to be my friend on there. Duh! There was a reason why I broke up with you!! (as in them.....) Why would I want to re-connect now after I am married??

I do have quite a few friends on FB, but my "rule of thumb" is whether or not I would say hi to them or carry on small talk with them if I ran into them on the street. If the answer is no, I don't add them on FB.

Oh, yeah, and while we're on the subject of FB friends.....Does anyone have thoughts about adding co-workers? I don't feel it's a very good idea, but curious on other's thoughts.......

Co-workers - heck I got my boss on FB and he and his wife are both friends on mine. Actually both of my bosses wives are friends. There are 4 guys that I also work with that are on my friends list. However, I work for a very small company so we all pretty much know everything about each other anyway - including most of our families. So for me it was not a big deal to add them. However, if I worked for a larger company and didn't know them that well then probably not. HTH

I work for a very small company, too. We all get along well. I think it is my past job experience that haunts me. I worked for companies full of backstabbers, and my job before this one, the owner/boss was the worst one yet. So much so, that I was going to freelance myself rather than ever be employed again!

But while I like all my co-workers and we all get along, there are times when I post while I am at work. We don't have written rules that expressly prohibit such things. And I work for a software company, so we use the computer/internet in ways that many other companies do not. I know other co-workers are signed into and use IM throughout the day, surf the net, browse YouTube, etc. But if the point ever wanted to be pressed, a "friend" on FB (as in "co-worker") could use that against me. And I would have no way - nor would it matter - to prove that "others" do it. KWIM?

I wouldn't add anyone that I work with that I don't associate with outside the office. Just my rule of thumb. Some places look down upon that....in a really bad way. Use it against you later if there's ever a problem.
