I was looking at the website of the local shelter here. We are gonna go look after Hubby gets home. The shelter said they have a foster program. We could bring the dog home and keep it for 2 weeks if we like it then come back and adopt but if not bring it back and then select another one.

**did NOT read past first few responses to this post, so if this was already mentioned, SORRY.
Unless you or they are wanting a purebred I would take them to a shelter and let them pick one out. Spend some time with it of course see how they and the dog interact etc. Usually you/child and the animal will get a bond quickly imo.

Dachshund. Very loving, but very protective, very loyal, very smart. Great with kids. I wouldnt trade my doxies for anything. If fact my puppy is laying beside me right now. LOL, not much of a pup anymore. He is bigger than my adult dog. He will be 1 year on the first.

I will bring you a walker coon hound, she wants to be petted 24/7 she loves kids she will just sit and be petted. she is not too big either, she is about a yr old. I want to get rid of her as long as I know she will go to a good home. I found her I also have another one she is a wolf hyrid and she is about the same way, they both love attention. free of charge, I have my cats and kittens I don't have time to pay attention to the dogs. I will even bring one or both and if you don't like them bring them back home.

My sister in law has a dachshund. They have to be careful with her on what she eats. Alot of things make her sick. She has a special diet. Are they all like that? I know my kids would be feeding the dog what they are eating. LOL

I've never heard of a walker coon hound. Are they like the red bone's?

Nope, the only thing that has made my puppy sick is Bratz dolls. He ate the legs off of one when he was about 3 or 4 months old. We thought we were going to lose him.
My adult(pictured to the left) will try to hold out for the "good stuff" and sometimes wont eat her food if she thinks she will get something better. She is very needy(wanting to be petted constantly) because before we got her, she belonged to a breeder and had to share any attention she might have gotten with alot of other dogs. She will litterally lick your face off if you let her.

If you go to this site it will show you what they look like
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/treeingwalkercoonhound.htm
The Treeing Coonhound is good with children and gets along with other dogs. Training is accomplished with little trouble, as these dogs are able to learn from example. They are primarily working and hunting dogs but will also make a great companion dog. Working, to the Treeing Walker Coonhound, is not work but a sport and diversion. They thrive on consistent and ample attention.
I have a fenced in yard and she has got out a couple of times she goes across the road to the trailer park where there are kids.

That is soooo cool. You can take the pet home and check it out. Ohh you'll see all the bad habits if it has any.
All shelters should do this. Or do they?

I would never have a beagle... ugh... so obnoxious. We dogsat one once and the thing nervous peed EVERYWHERE. It was so bad we had to tell her to find someone else... ugh... but I think you should check out a shelter instead of looking for a full blood anything.
