Absolutely shocking to me
My 7 yr old granddaughter has been going to chat rooms. I didn't even know there were chat rooms that would interest a 7 yr old. Most of the ones I've been to , I would think a 7 yr old couldn't even follow the conversation that lags as other people chat on different subjects and I find them pretty much intolerable and a waste of time. She found this one on a disney box, it is something about disney fairies and they all have names as disney fairies each time they come in. She told her mother today she needed some money and that she guessed she would sell sex. I didn't even know she knew what sex is beyond the minor information. I don't know still and I don't think I want to know. She also has been told my pass word twice I know of because she has to use it to get on AOL. And that is the password she has been using. She is smart as a whip but this is just too much. The computer at their house is in the living room facing the room and her mom knew she was going to chat rooms but had no idea they were this advanced. I mean they got the name of the chat room off of a disney toy box. This is the same kid who was saying semen (cemen) when she meant cement. They now have her locked out of chat rooms but is there no where safe for children to play? She is coming to visit me for 2 weeks this summer so I guess I will have to learn how to block her out of so much stuff. She has games to play but her favorite is chat rooms. Thanks for any suggestions and no matter the age look carefully at what your child is looking at.

There is no way I allow my kids to go to a chat room, no way no how.
My son found a site called freerealms.com he is 10, my 7 year old dd likes to go to bratz.com for games

My son loves webkinz, poptropica and club penguin. The first two are nice because there isn't chat, but on club penguin they can talk to each, but I think it can be reported (not sure if it does any good). Webkinz does have a kind of "chat" but it's pre-made phrases so you can't say anything bad.

Good morning America did a bit about online family safety and they talked about this program https://onlinefamily.norton.com so I downloaded it and it is AWESOME!
I have 3 teen/preteen girls and after some online troubles with one of them, it has all ended since I can monitor what they are doing 24/7

My nine year old goes to allgirlsarcade.com , I monitor all activity and chats and so far I have not found anything inappropriate. From what I gather it is like a sims/farmtown game. They make friends, earn money, build up a house and furnish it. They throw parties, sleepovers, fsahion shows etc. Even when I am not home I have a keylogger on her account and read all things she types, nothing bad in the last six months she has been using it.

My DD chats on Webkinz (she's 8) and you can set it to be able to only click on premade sayings, like 'hello, how are you?' etc. She chats on Farm Town on Facebook and Yoville on myspace but only to her friends that I've approved.
