I asked the vet if its time to switch to dog food, he said not yet cuz he is still a growing (((EEK how much more can this mutant grow??!!!))) so until he is about yr he gets puppy chow, then the Purina Dog Chow. My vet said Iams and that is good, but I dont wanna pay that much for dog food when my dog can eat like a horse. so he said Purina makes good products.
I also found out my dog likes Taco Bell and will do anything for a treats like Milkbone bicuits
sounds like your vet needs some serious nutrition education...for one iams pays him to say its good food, you may also want to do some research on puppy food and large breed dogs, it has actually been found to be bad for them in some cases, (higher protein/faster growth)

This is the first 5 ingredients on dog chow...
Whole grain corn, poultry by-product meal, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), corn gluten meal, meat and bone meal,

here are the first 5 from a food called chicken soup for the pet lovers soul....
Chicken, turkey, chicken meal, ocean fish meal, cracked pearled barley

    and here is iams..
Chicken, Corn Meal, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Chicken By-Product Meal, Chicken Fat

notice chicken soup (the better brand) uses chicken and ocean fish meal and NOT by-product meals...

when you buy a better food you also feed less, dogs cant digest corn and the rest of the fillers cheap food uses, he is able to utilize more of the better food, you will also see less of it all over the backyard

I only use Blue Buffalo. It's a holistic dog food using only human grade ingredients. No by products, No corn, wheat, or soy (allergy causing fillers) It's more expensive but they eat less and it makes my dog extremely shiny.
    Their nutrition is unsurpassed.

Maybe your dog doesnt like dry food. Try mixing in either a bit of water or some wet food. I know my oldest has bad teeth so I water hers down a bit for her so its not so crunchy and hard on her teeth.
I add a little can food and warm water due to his teeth and his age,and still the little snot will turn his head to the side when I offer it to him,and it isnt just this dog food,he does it to all dog food,he does eat,but usally at night,I guess Im just used to a dog eating quicker, and more often.

We have a little Peke. Sara is about 7 and weighs10 lbs. The vet says that for her size she should not weigh over that, it's too hard on their back if they get fat. Sara used to eat about 1/2 cup of Purina Little Bites. Now she has gotten so persnickety that she will only eat Pedigree canned food. She get 1/2 a big can a day. The only treats she gets are watermelon, apples and cantalope. She would rather have that than anything. She's so spoiled, the "queen bee" and we've only had her for a few months. But she deserves it after the rough start she had in life.

    I feed my 2 dogs
Natural Balance organic formula; prior to that was natural balance venison and sweet potato

I will not feed any dog a food that has corn (any type) listed in the ingredients, wheat, or ANY by-products of any kind.
