    School uniform question

Okay just wondering who has been in a school where they just started a school uniform policy? We just started one for this year and already I see alot of problems that are going to happen with it. First off there is a set of twins in the high school that I do not think they will be able to find uniforms to fit them. One weights 400+ and the other is 500+. Second they have a program that helps the poor get uniforms for there kids but they have run out of money and not everyone that needs them are going to be able to get them. So I know it is not against the rules to set the uniform policy however does anyone know if they can tell them kids that they can not come to school if they do not have them? This is not a private school.

Yes, you can be sent home for failure to comply to the dress code. And standardized dress is dress code for many public schools now. The absence is considered unexcused, and can result in other issues.

While some schools help pay for uniforms, they do not have to do so. If the program is out of money: it is out of money. The school is not required to clothe a student: parents are. To attend the school (public or private) you have to follow their rules.
The parents/guardians are responsible for the child's uniforms, and the courts will and have sided with schools more often in the past 3 years.

Weight is no excuse not to be able to get uniforms. Where would these twins shop if they didn't have to wear uniforms? Thats the same place they can get the kakai or blue or black pants that are usually required and likewise with the polo shirts.

Now unless your schools has a special shirt or they are embroidered, the low income parents can also pick up the uniforms the same place they would shop for regular clothes.

It's nice that the school did put money aside to help people out but they aren't required to clothed any child.

All the schools in the county where I live have the same dress code policy. It certainly has helped around here. There are a lot of inner city kids, and it is cheaper for them to go to walmart and buy the need stuff once a year than to have to worry about buying new clothes all the time. Also, kids cannot wear any gang regalia.

    Exactly.
I miss my DDs uniforms - we're going to public school where uniforms are not required this year - the kids were SO CUTE in their uniforms

it also sounds like if children weigh in the excess of 400 lbs the state needs to come in and investigate.

My children go to a public school and they have a uniform policy. Last year was the first year that they fully enforced it and there were no problems. You weren't in uniform you either had to wear something they gave you that was uniform, or your parents were called .. and I support it 100%.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.

All I know is that they wear like streach pants because they can't wear regular clothing and the school will not allow that. I know that them being that over weight is bad to begin with but they are as is there mother. She is about the same size as these children.

I just can not believe that a school can send a child home because they are big or poor and can not get a uniform. I know alot of people say well they can afford at least 1 or 2 uniforms but that is not always so. I know alot of them get clothing from yard sales and things like that just to clothe them.

I had to order my son's uniforms for the pants because he is so tall and they will not be here in time so I guess he will miss school.

I am sooooo glad we don't have to deal with them in this school district. They other schools he attended, you had to have the school name on them, which makes them more expensive. They only thing that I will miss is that it was easier to pick out clothes for the next day-lol

Now I have a closet full of clothes listed on craig's list!!

You can't make an exception for one child just because of their weight. There are big and tall shops and they may have to get one pair of pants at a time. Also, they can afford to get the uniforms required. Its a matter where the parent puts the priority. Maybe mom can't get her nails done or they don't eat out for a couple of days.

I think if you talk to the school, they may let your son slide because of the situation regarding his pants. I would think as long he has the shirts they will let him attend.
