Old Folk Remedies or Folklore-list here
I remembered after reading about Bears eye sty a remedy that my x mother inlaw used to live by,she was Cherokee Indian, from The Ky-Tenn area, her family swore to it and I just couldnt never bring myself to do it,the family used it for pink eye and other eye infections.Ready for this one????? Hang on to your seat now---urine,thats right, put drops of pee pee in your eye, this was to clear it up,shorten the span to a few days. I just couldnt do this to myself or my kids,I love to hear and read old folk remedies, and some of them are really good, are ancestors lived well and for longer times, and many of them used their common brains for meds and healing powers, some didnt work, some worked well, some were too funny just thinking about them.
Do you know any family known folk remedies from way back, from your great great granny, maybe the old granny woman that lived down your lane? Did your ancient family have a remedy that you just said no way Im doing that one? Thought it would be fun to hear some of the things our ancestors have used and swore about them to work.
Thanks

I remember my Granny telling my Mother once when I was a little girl that if she put a couple of drops of pee in my ear that it would cure my ear infection. I am so glad my Mom refused that one. LOL

YUKKKKKKKKKKK! I was thinking NORMAL remedies! LOL!
Vinegar works for sunburn, I use a spray bottle.
Also, table salt sewn into a dish towel and heated in micro for about a min and placed on ear is THE best remedy for ear pain!

When I was younger, I almost lost my hearing due to constant ear aches. Both my grandma and my best friends mom would always make me lay in their laps while they blew cig. smoke in my ears. I don't know what it was supposed to do but I was always willing to try anything! And my grandma used to say to rub a gold ring on a sty to make it go away, that one never worked for me either!

Ive heard of blowing the smoke in the ear,had it down to me,I still hear of that being done today, along with hot oil, never worked for me,but like you,I was willing to try anything to get rid of that horrible pain.
Never heard of sewing salt into a towel, heating it up,wonder how that would work ? Pretty neat ideas.
Yes some folk remedies or folk lore is so funny, but tryed and true, like bury your coffee grounds if your bowles are chocked up,sure to make you have the screaming memes the next day, lmao.

my mother used to put olive oil in my sisters ears, when she had earaches.pure honey is good for hickups(the ones that go on and on till they hurt). granny always gave me witchhazel for my sunburns.and to curve my eating all the time, granny told me to mix fresh chopped garlic in apple cidar vinegar, and put a tablespoon in a glass of water, and drink this with my meals,so i wouldnt eat as much, and gain extra weight.

put dish liquid on a bee sting as soon as it happens and it will not swell up ...works too......
warm milk in the ear to help ear aches.....works
there is a verse that my mil says that can help stop or slow down bleeding....we always call her to start saying that verse is somebody has some bleeding issues....yes this does work alot of the times
they always said that if your breast hurt from being filled with milk ...heat up the stove and drip some on it and it is suppose to start drying you up....never tried but they did that back in the day
there are alot around here....at least here in KY where I live they still like to use the old home remedies alot and we try to also
for asthma...we cut a sourwood branch the height of the kid and hang it up like over a widow and when they out grow it they wont have as much trouble with it.....this is soooo true....we did this with my oldest dd and after she out grew that branch she hardly ever had any attacks.....so glad of that one...

Milk weed for poision Ivy/oak/sumac
Also for the same thing take a weekping willow tree branch and stip the leaves from the branch. Break the branches into smaller pieces and then boil them in medium sauce pan. When the water turns to tea color.....let cool and then dip in a cloth and bath the poision with it....do as many times a day as needed. This works!!
I know more but can't think of them.
When Jesus Returns will you be ready??
