    Food diary and calorie counter

I've been invited to join a Big Loser's club started by my boyfriend's aunt. I'm excited about the idea... it will be good motivation for me to slim up for my ten year high school reunion this summer. Anyways, I'm thinking of starting a food diary and I was wondering if anyone here uses one consistently and with results. What should I be tracking? My goal is to lose about 30 pounds to be closer to my correct BMI, but I'm more interested in eating healthy because of my epilepsy and the fact that I want to be healthier. Also, how do you track like fat grams and such, when you make dinner at home? For instance, today, I ate homemade hamburger stroganoff. If I'm going to track calories and fat in my diary, how do I know how much to write down?

Anyways, I always get such amazing help here at BBF that I'd thought I'd check with you guys for help. Thank you!

You could track it using www.fitday.com

If a food isn't listed you can list the ingredients or enter the foods yourself and base it off of what the package lists.

also check out www.sparkpeople.com It sounds like we are pretty much in the same situation but I won't be attending my 10 year reunion this summer but it's 1600 miles away. I have 36 more pounds I want to lose. Honestly, I don't really track mine.. but I know on the site above you can track your food pretty easily as long as you know how much you ate (like oz or grams or pounds or pieces, etc) Good luck

    http://www.mypyramid.gov/index.html

This is a government based free program. You type in your height, weight, sex and age and it'll tell you how many calories you need and you put in the food and exersize you eat/do and it'll tell you how many more servings of what you need for the day. Such as a bowl of cottage cheese, lettuce and peaches on top. You put those in and the servings and it'll tell you that you'll need "7.5 cups more cheese" "2.5 cups more fruit" now these are just examples of course.

I like it, when I do it. Its super simple and its a big big help. Helps me keep track and decide what else I need to eat.

Thanks for the help and those sites. I'll check them out after work. It's amazing how busy I get when I want to do something... and I don't have kids or a house yet!

dbackfan directed me to CalorieCount.about.com and it is great. The support there is wonderful and easy to use and understand the tools. Spark People is a good site as well but I guess I wasn't in the frame of mind at the time to do it right. My head must be in the right place now because I am finding Calorie Count to be my home away from Big Big Forums.

    Good luck!
