and came across a blog that was talking about some town that was on fire.

it picqued my interest because honestly, how could some town STILL be on fire for close to half a century...

and it turned out to be TRUE!!

It's not just one town...it's TWO towns!

Centralia, Pennsylvania and Byrnsville, Pennsylvania.

Both are close together in central PA, and have been on fire since 1962!

It is said that there is enough fuel to keep it burning for the next 1000 years.

It's so sad to see the pictures that people have taken after visiting the towns.

Yes, I've heard of this. I grew up in S. California, and we had something similar happen with an oil well catching on fire. The government specialists tried for months and they couldn't put it out. The finally brought in an outside contractor who specialized in putting out oil fires. His name was Red Adair, and he blew the fire up and out. I wonder if they have asked him.

I have lived in PA my whole entire life and never heard of this! I just asked DH if he had ever heard of Centralia, and he knew all about it!!! I don't know what stumped me more, never hearing of Centralia, or that I have been with DH almost 17 years and there is something he knows that I don't! LOL
