Poll, chain lock
If you have kids, do you have a chain lock?
By "some other kind of door lock" I mean a lock high enough that a child cannot reach, even by moving a chair over to the door.

I have chain locks in addition to regular locks.
I live on a corner lot, one side has a creek and the 2 sides have heavily wooded, then a road about 20 feet from the front door. It is a pretty rural road, but the speed limit is not obeyed at all.
We added the chain locks when my youngest was about 15 months. My DH & cousin were outside and I was doing dishes, I turned around and my DS was gone. After total mayhem and panic searching the creek and the road, DD found him playing on the bathroom floor. Never thought to look there. DH went to the hardware store right then and there and put them on front & back and the basement door (steps are steep).

I don't have a 'chain' lock, but the one we have have is similar. It has a bar instead of a chain, that lets you partially open the door, like a chain lock does. It's at the top of the door.

We have deadbolts. I worry more about someone coming in than going out. But all of my kids are old enough to know not to go out in a storm, snow, or open the door to a stranger. But I also have door alarms for when I have day care kids here.

We live in an apartment and the locks were already installed on the door. We have a regular lock, a dead bolt lock and the chain lock. We don't normally use the chain lock because a few times it had actually gotten stuck. One time we were leaving to go somewhere and it took us at least 10 minutes to unlock it. LOL My son is going to be 14 so we don't have any little ones that we need to worry about escaping. LOL

No kids here, but we have dead bolts on both outside doors & we usually lock the screen door & Glass Storm door as well.

deadbolt & a doorknob lock, plus a lock on the storm door. Can't be too careful, there are gangs where we are.
