We have regular locks and the deadbolts that use keys to open them.

Wink

We had chain locks on when our oldest was little. She was a walker and had tried to get out the front door when we lived in OKC. Now we have a 12 and a 10 year old and they don't sleepwalk. Now, the back door doesn't lock and the front door is almost never locked(it does have a lock on the handle) We live in the boonies and have 5 big people eating dogs(well people licking but they look mean) Nobody sneaks up on us and nobody gets in unless momma says it's ok.

we have regular locks on the doors only...we live out so far in the country that we don't even lock our cars, let alone the doors.

We have the regular doorknob locks, deadbolt locks and the Burgular-Proof Lock - it is a flat metal piecs that does not allow the door to open a crack like a chain lock but can removed quickly.

I have several locks on all my doors, my son was a sleepwalker, and it just makes sense when you have kids. I have a dead bolt too.

Cathych I do that too, lock the storm door,lol...

Is this poll in part due to what happened to that poor little boy, that was so horrible!

Yes it is. dv8girl wanted to see the number of regular people who have a chain lock or something of the sort.

That's why I don't like using the chain lock. After it got stuck a few times I decided not to use it. With the other two locks there really isn't a need for it anyway.

Yes definitely! Put it at the top of the door. Just can't forget when dd slid a chair to the door and unlocked it. It was one of the nightmares of my life. We then lived on a very busy road. She was then about 3 years old. I woke up at 7 am to find 2 doors open (not just one). Thank God she was found by my dad who lived down the street shortly after. Must say she was my terror. Another thing she did was to take a towel and plug up the kichen sink. Woke up at the frozen touch of her when she came in my bed at about 5 am. Flooded out the kitchen. Took off her clothes and must of thought that she was in a swimming pool. Oh the memories!

When my kids were younger we had a chain lock on the doors, as well as one of those slide locks that are kind of hard to see and they slide into the frame, we put that one on the very top of the door so the kids couldn't open it. The chain lock was more for us to be able to open the door a bit to see who was at the door since we didn't have a peek hole, the slide lock was to keep the kiddos in the house in case they woke up and decided they felt the need to be outside.

When both of the boys were about a 18 months or so they managed to unlock the door at my mom's and go wandering. Matthew did it when my ex was supposed to be watching him, but fell asleep. Evan did it in full view of a house full of adults that were just too preoccupied with making dinner etc to notice. I should have learned after Matt, but I sure took no chances after Evan. You tend to underestimate the determination of kids you assume to still be babies. It was the biggest heart attack I've ever had!

We are taking our 4 yr old grandson to Florida with us and he will be sleeping with me. It's just me, hubby and grandson going. Now I am worried, because I am pretty sure the place we are staying does not have chains on the doors. Are there any temp type locks anyone can think of that wouldn't damage door?
