    Preschool......

well just got a letter that dd is getting into the headstart program. It begins Sept 10th. I am a littel upset though because the letter came today and the list of things they say have to be done before the start date is crazy. I am going to be jumping through hoops trying to get all this done:

a lead test after age two (hers was at 18 months) so will have to get another.

anemia test ( not for sure if she has had this or not)

dental exam within past 6 months ( she has had a dental exam but over 6 months ago)

listed a couple other things too. Not sure how they are expecting all this, especially with the dental backlog around here. Wondering if they won't let here start? Why are they waiting until 2 weeks before school to tell me this? Didn't think she was getting in because in June they said we made too much! HELP

I had to do all that stuff for mine to start Kingergarten this month. I was able to sign the waiver for the dental exam though. In CA it isn't required until 1st grade. Since time was an issue, I just signed the waiver saying I'd get it completed before she started 1st grade. When was her last physical? My daughter is checked for anemia at every physical. She has a history of being anemic so I'm not sure if that's a routine check or something they do for her everytime.

They probably waited so long because they let parent's know as space opens. If someone dropped out, there was an extra space and you were next on the list, that may have been all the time they had to give you.

The only thing they absolutely would not budge on was her TB test. She needed that before Pre-K and before K.

Goodluck getting everything done on time, I'm sure you're so excited that she's starting school!

I work at Head Start in WV and we allow you a little time to get everything done...as long as you have appts. your child can attend. Almost everything can be taken care of at your local health department or quick care. Good luck and have a great year...also if you can volunteer and make sure you do all the in-kind papers ....that it how we get all the things for the centers.

Good news was able to get the dental scheduled before the 10...she is going Sept 5th...close. Still waiting to hear back from the nurse on the other things, but I don't see aproblem with geting into docs if we need to. She goes for her physical every October since that is her birthday. Feeling a little less stressed and she is exctied.
