Are there really any effective anti-aging creams?

I was just reading an article in a magazine about anti-aging creams. This article stated that no matter how much you spend on any anti-aging cream your results will be, at the most, a 10% difference in reduction of fine lines/wrinkles, barely visible to the naked eye.

Now, what about all these anti-aging creams being advertised in magazines and tv that say their studies have shown that their creams can reduce fine lines/wrinkles by 40%-70%? Who's right here?

I have pretty good skin with minimal fine lines, and I'd like to keep it that way for as long as possible and maybe reduce them a bit more.

Have any of you used any anti-aging creams that you feel actually work and do show a significant reduction in fine lines?

I just bought Avon's Ultimate line (day, night, and eye cream) plus their Anew Clinical Deep Crease Concentrate for my furrows (they're not too deep, but they could use a little smoothing out).

But this article I read has got me wondering if anything really works. Please tell me this article is wrong and that you've found something that actually does work, and please tell me it's exactly what I just bought from Avon.

Well from what I've heard the best thing for young looking skin would be NO SMOKING!!!! And drinking lots of water everyday. Staying hydrated is a biggie for good skin. I would think those creams you bought would probably help as long as you dont smoke and drink lots of water. Adding some help (like the creams) shouldnt really hurt any I would think!

Stay out of the sun and don't smoke. Avon's Anew makes my eyes burn and water. Any moisturizer that agrees with your skin should help. Not sure if any one will help any better than the next.

Lifestyle is probably the best treatment. Drink lots of water. Just take care of your skin I would say. IMO

Yeppers, what the others said!!! No smoking and drinking alot of water. I used to smoke and I sure was aging really quickly in my face. Due to health problems, I quit smoking and I drink lots of water now and I sure can see a BIG difference now, its been 2 yrs since I stopped smoking and I dont miss it, I regret starting up when I was 17 yrs old, smoked for a long 24 yrs, wish I hadnt!!!!

I guess I'm ahead of the game then. lol I've never smoked or drank any alcohol, and I drink at least 124 ounces of water daily. I also am religious about taking my vitamins and staying out of the sun for any extended amount of time. I guess I shouldn't complain because people say I look at least 10 years younger than my age. I'm just trying to hold Father Time back for another decade or so.

Anyone else found any creams to rave about?

I love Mary Kay's Timewise Firming eye cream and I really like it! It's pricey but I think it's worth it.

Thank you. I will keep this one in mind if the Avon products don't work. Hey, you aren't a Mary Kay rep by any chance, are you?

What has improved my skin and made it super soft:
    Mineral Makeup
    Emu Oil
    Squalene Oil
    Jojaba Oil
All the oils are pretty inexpensive and last quite a while. I buy them at the Natural Food Store
My dh even says your skin is as soft as a baby's behind and I am 48 so thats a good thing to hear.

I dont even buy creams etc from the stores any more because dollar for dollar I get better results for less money

    I agree with dwlt.

You can pay a lot of money for these creams and things but if you look at most of the ingrediants, they usually contain one of the oils that dwlt uses. Most of the cosmetic lines prey on people like yourself who are trying to stay young and if you read articles found in consumer report or the like, you will find that most really do nothing for you.

I started buying the Mary Kay stuff off of eBay sellers. You can get it for about half the price that way.

I use the Mary Kay Time Wise 3 in 1 face cleaner and the oil free hydrating gel. My face breaks out real easy and these products seem to work real well if you need something that's not oily but doesn't dry out your face.

I have been using StriVectin-SD for about a year. It is quite exspensive, about $135 a tube but that will last me about a year. I only use it on crows feet and laugh lines and I can really tell the difference. I never had deep lines, just fine ones starting and after a month or so they are gone I am 42 (and I smoke) and I have NO lines. My sister gets it for me now on my birthday. I LOVE it. It was origanally used for stretch marks (thats what the tube still says, but people discovered it was GREAT on wrinkles)

here is a link from Macy's for it with reviews.
