need advice for niece
My niece let my nephew and his wife use her credit card to get a dish installed last year, they didnt pay their bill and dish took $125.00 off her credit card (which she didnt authorize) what can she do, is there anyway she can recoup her money since it wasnt her account, do they have a right to take money from her credit card after a year without her authorization, she called her credit card company and they fixed it so they cannot take anything else off her card. Shes just 21 so i dont want to see her get messed over by these jerks. she is so upset, she has good credit and wants to keep it that way, has anyone else been through this, could really use some advice.

Re: need advice for niece
Since she's already fixed it so no more can be added to her account, I'd say tell the nephew to pay up. Hopefully, she's learned not to 'lend' her account to anyone again.

handle a stressful situation like a dog If you can't eat it or hump it. Piss on it and walk away.

Re: need advice for niece
Call the credit card company and file a dispute on those charges. They'll put that amount on "hold" until it gets worked out.
Hopefully she learned a lesson.

Re: need advice for niece
They can not take the payment out of her Credit Card, if they paid their bill monthly out of money orders or checks and it was the only time that the money was used by that Credit Card when they signed up, then they did not have authorization to take the charges out.
Can I tell ya something.. If they have an ONLINE account with the sat people.. like direct tv.. they KEEP the CC on the computer, the nephew himself could have gone online and PAID his bill using her Credit card. Tell her to contact the Sat company and see how it actually got paid, they will know if it was done online or if THEY infact took it out, which by law they can not do that. IF her nephew did it online then that is Credit Card fraud and she should contact the police. The Sat company should and probably will give her her money back.

Re: need advice for niece
no they used money orders to pay their bill, they just used the credit card to actually get the satellite installed, they never paid a payment online just through the regular mail, she called dish and they said they could take it out since they used the credit card to initially get the service but I didnt think they had a right to because she never authorized it. My nephew lost his job and is looking for one, just having hard times, hes hoping to get on at a Lowe's store that is opening soon, they also got two small children. Thanks for letting me know to tell my niece to dispute the charge. They were going to take $600 more dollars off but my niece called her credit card company and they fixed it so they cannot take anymore off it, the credit card company told her if dish had taken the $600 out they would go after them for fraud. its just a big mess, I tried to get them to go get a prepaid credit card to do this in the first place but kids dont listen. thanks for the advice I will tell her to dispute the charges. thanks jackie
