Re: Wal-Mart Christmas layaway?
I dont think they start layaways until late though. (I could be totally wrong). But I think I was going to put a layaway in last year and they weren't excepting christmas layaways. And I think they make you get them out way to early too!

Re: Wal-Mart Christmas layaway?
I believe most, if not all, of the Walmarts are going to be discontinuing layaway by the end of December. Some around the country already have discontinued their layaway department. So if you want to put something on layaway, you better do it quick.

Walmart is already doing Christmas layaways here. They usually start taking them pretty soon after Labor Day. As far as getting out the layaway-- you can pay off the balance and pick it up the next day if that's what you want to do. You don't have to wait till the final deadline.
The deadline for getting them is set usually during the second or third week of December. If you placed the stuff in layaway in September the deadline is like Dec 13. If you put stuff in layaway in October the deadline would be Dec 15. If you put stuff in layaway in November, the deadline would be Dec 17th. They also won't accept any Layaways from Dec 5 till the first week of Jan.

Re: Wal-Mart Christmas layaway?
Ours also goes by your last name. I think the deadline dates here were Dec.16, 17, and 18 (or something like that) last year. Ours also starts Christmas layaway on Sept. 1, or at least they did last year.
I need to go get my stuff my on layaway too.

Wal-Mart scraps tradition, ends layaways
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will end layaway service this year due to falling demand and rising costs, scrapping a tradition started when Sam Walton founded the chain in 1962 catering to cash-strapped rural shoppers in northwest Arkansas.
Wal-Mart said Thursday it will stop accepting layway items Nov. 19 with a pickup deadline of mid-December. In its layaway program, customers make a down payment to hold an item and then generally had up to 60 days to pay it off, with a shorter deadline in the peak Christmas season.
Layway is used mainly by people at the lowest end of the income scale, who don't have credit cards and may not qualify for credit, analysts say.
The move comes as Wal-Mart is changing on many fronts, from adding upscale fashions to targeting new urban customers, in a bid to revive growth rates that have fallen behind smaller rivals such as Target Corp.
"Demand for layaway service has declined steadily as consumers turn to current options including online shopping, shopping cards and no-cost credit alternatives that were not available when the company was started," said Pat Curran, executive vice president of Wal-Mart store operations.

Interesting. I wonder what the AFA will think about that? They're already on the verge of a Walmart boycott because of other issues.
