Re: Anybody fish for Carp?
Ok -- forgive me for sounding dumb. I used to get dragged fishing w/ my father a lot and I only vaguely remember any fish besides bass and trout. Do these fish have little round things in their heads that sound like drums? If the answer is no, then I am thinking of another fish -- if the answer is yes... then we used to catch them by putting (ok, I can't think of the name, I wanna say crawdads? They look like mini lobsters... ppl love to eat them) the live mini lobsters on a hook (w/out killing them) and letting them walk around on the floor of the lake. These fish were absolutely thrilling to try and catch -- what a fight (carp websites say they are fighters -- which is why I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing). Other than that -- I just don't have an answer for you... I wish I did. Sorry.
Nevermind -- I see now that I am wrong... the fish I am thinking about is actually called a drum(duh)fish -- I always thought it had a different name.

Re: Anybody fish for Carp?
We used to go carp fishing but haven't been in years.
Here is the recipe that we used
1 cup packed flour
1 cup cornmeal
Mix well in bowl.
Put 1 teaspoon vanilla in the same cup you used for the flour and cornmeal and fill up with water. Put the vanilla/water mixture in pan and bring to a full boil. Dump flour/cornmeal mixture in all at once then remove move from heat. Chop the flour/cornmeal mixture in well. Dump mixture on table let cool until able to touch. Then knead on table till it's moist and holds together. Take a small amount and make a ball and try to bounce it. If it bounces any it is made correctly. Divide the mixture in half. Let cool completely before wrapping in plastic wrap.
I also used this same recipe but used Anise instead of the vanilla.
You take a good size amount of this and make a ball then put your hook in it all the way up to where the hook ties on to the line. It will lay on the bottom of the water. A carp will pick it up and drop it and play with it.
Can't promise this recipe will work. I thing if it is to hot out they just don't bite as well. My husband will let it sit for hours before moving the ball a little in the water. I on the other hand get bored so I move it more often.

Re: Anybody fish for Carp?
Around here carp are considered 'junk' fish and if caught people just throw them out. I was always told they had too many little bones to make good eating. They are fun to catch though.

Re: Anybody fish for Carp?
Yes they are consided junk fish here too but he caught them a few times and love how they give you a good fight. But lately he has no luck with corn, bread or the boilies he uses. He is in it for the sport not the fish itself. He throws them out too. With other fish he catches and throws them back.

Re: Anybody fish for Carp?
I grew up along a river and
the small town always had big
fish fries including
Scored Carp sandwiches:
Scored Carp Recipes
Frances Edlin, wife of commercial fishermen Earl Edlin of Lagrange Lock and Dam, cleaned and scored carp and buffalo by hand for more than fifty years. It was not unusual for her to clean and score eighty pounds in one morning and deliver it to stores. Her hand scoring was much finer that machine scoring. Scoring cuts up the bones in to tiny pieces that cook Ԥoneՠand can be eaten easily.
Fried Scored Carp or Buffalo
2 cups cornmeal
1 Tablespoon flour
Salt and pepper
oil or lard to fill an iron skillet to a one-inch depth.
Coat fish with dry mix of cornmeal and flour. Place in hot oil, scored side down. Fry until golden brown, then turn to fry other side golden brown.
Deep-fat Fried Scored Carp Recipe from the Approach Restaurant/Lounge of Meredosia, Illinois. This was a favorite dish of Mr. Anderson of the Island Gun Club.
Yield - 4 servings
Two carp/buffalo fish, fresh, scored, and halved
Milk
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon Lawry's Seasoned Salt
oil for frying
Wash fish and dip in milk, then in dry mix. Do this twice.
Deep fry fish in oil at 350 degrees until golden brown.
Serve hot on bread slices.
Garnish with sliced onions, tartar sauce, or lemon slices.
