Baby Shower ideas
NOT ME..my girlfriend is having a girl..in the next month or so I am doing a SHOWER..I have only catered these and never planned the games..I remeber at the last showeer I attened we played a game with dice..anyoone know this, and gift's in the middle of the floor and everyone got one and I can't remember it..any ideas welcomes..have the food and a Sangria Punch and Bottled water and lemonade planned and if anyone has ideas for decorations I would love to hear them, I want this party to be fun and have no boring parts, I thought 2 hours or so would be enough.
Should I do a big gift or is me hosting enough?
Do people like GC'S to Target or something MORE than gifts?
All of you who have had shower's is there something you liked or didn't like?
Is it OK to invite MEN?
Do we have to have a cake????
Is it OK to send the leftover's home with the MAMA to be, as I will not use it..do we ask the Hubby to come?
See, I dunno about this sort of thing..
It is the 2005, last party I was at for this was a LONG time ago..
Thanks for ALL HELP, I need it...

Re: Baby Shower ideas
I think it's okay to ask guys, but I dont think they would really be intrested. My mom sent all the food home with me. I froze it and we had it over time. I think cake is a good idea, but not nesscary.
Gift cards are great. I always enjoyed pratical gifts, like diapers wipes and baby wash. My Aunt got me one the best gifts. It was a pack of diapers in sizes 1 & 2. And a goregous outfit I would spend the money on. My grandmother gave us a gift cert. to go to dinner and movies for the last time as baby less couple.

Re: Baby Shower ideas
Ok, I have hosted my share.. It is ok to invite men and to not have a cake, but it would be modern, not traditional. But you do not have to be traditional these days! Check out what they do for weddings now!
Well, to continue........you can definitely decorate how you wish, even themes make it more appealing! I did one in baby snoopy since my girlfriend loved him and wanted that for her baby. The food, you could always do as you wish. I had finger foods, such as crustless sandwich bites, chips, crackers, dips, fruit and veggies. The dips were great! I had a peanut butter dip, white marshmallow mix dip, and chocolate fondue type dips for the fruits and ranch, french onion and like a thousand island dip for the veggies and chips. Crackers were served with cheeses. Then for the games............I have seen quite a few! Some new, old and then the quite odd ones.......One of the funniest ones was to pass pink, blue and yellow craft pom poms with tongs, blind folded back and forth from a bowl to the "carriage", the one team with the most won. It was fun, but unusual. The traditional one was everyone wore a rattle by a pin connected to their shirts. IF you said the word "baby" you were out and have to give the rattle to the person you said it to, or the one next to you if you said it to all. The one with the most at the end of the shower won. Another traditional one is the "advice game", each person takes a piece of pink/blue/yellow/green..or whatever the theme is, and put their word of advice in to the parents, and the expecting mother picks the best for the prize. And then the odd and gross one, but it is fun to watch the others do it...it was one I went to that did this....you take different candies/sweets of certain color and smear them into a diaper, the person must put their nose up to it and if you got the most right, you won.........ewww.. Then for the prizes, gift certifercates, vouchers, stationary sets, makeup, gift baskets or even discount/free coupons are usually the best! Hope I helped and good luck!

Re: Baby Shower ideas
At the last baby shower I went to (not even a year ago) They had a game that they had taken the labels off baby food jars and you had to guess what it was!-they had the jar lids numbered and you wrote down the number and your guess .The winner is the one who got the most right. The lids could not be opened, and at the end of the shower they were given to the "mom"
Another one was- you put safety pins-(not diaper!) in a bowl of rice, and the bowl gets passed around and you have to pick out as many safety pins as you can in a time limit. The one with the most gets a prize. It was hard! You think that you would feel the difference but you really can't!The safety pins were about an inch.
Also we each was given a diaper pin to wear and whoever crossed thier legs got theres taken away by the person who noticed them crossing thier legs and at the end whoever collected the most pins won a prize.
Good luck!!

Re: Baby Shower ideas
we did a baby game at my shower that was really fun. everyone wore a necklaces made from ribbon with a baby type charm on it. we just found plastic charms at the craft store. if someone said "baby" they lost their necklace to whoever heard them say it and got to them first. whoever had the most necklaces at the end got a prize. everyone had a lot of fun. we are having a shower for my sister in july and everyone is asking if we are going to play the game again. you can also play measure mommy's belly. i would ask the mother to be before the shower if she wants to do this. use ribbon or yarn to hand out and let everyone cut how much they think it will take to go around her belly. the closest one wins. just premeasure a peice to compare to everyone's guess. my grandmother guessed exactly right. the main thing is to have fun.

Re: Baby Shower ideas
Here is a site I used to find games for my friends shower.
http://www.baby-shower-games-etc.com...ower_games.htm
We made little diaper corsages for everyone to wear. The person whose diaper was "dirty" (it had a little chocolate chip in it) at the end of the shower won a prize. Everyone thought that was funny.
Have fun and good luck!!

Re: Baby Shower ideas
1) You could get a tray and fill it with baby things and pass it around and people have to remember what is on it and write it down.Time it
2) Another is you get a paper and pencil and they have to put the paper on their head and draw a baby. the one closes to looking like a baby wins.
3) Get a doll and you blind fold the person and they have to put a cloth daiper and cloths on the baby timed.
4) next this is great and saves on writing. Get the thank- you envolopes and have the people address them to themselfs then put them in a box and pull out one and they receive a gift.
5) pass around the toliet paper have them take as much as they want now must have seen the game and think it is going around the new moms belly nope if the guys are there put it around the dads belly.
6)Get a hanger and fill it with clothes pins and a person has to take off the pins with one hand and hold as many as they can in there hand when they drop one it is over for them. You count how many is left in the hand the one that held on to the most wins.

Re: Baby Shower ideas
I skimmed through the other posts, and from what I can see, most of the ideas that I have are varations of the other game.
1. The baby food game: We actually got to sample it. The lables were removed, and the tops were off. We each got a small popsicle stick for each jar, and we tasted the food (yuk). Most of the foods looked about the same, so it really was difficult.
2. The clothespin game: We each wore a clothespin, and you can pick the word or words that no one can say, and if they do, you get their clothespin (that was at my wedding shower, so you could use big diaper pins for a baby shower I guess).
3. A word game: We took the mother and father's first names and their last names and in (three minutes I think) we had to make as many words as we could in those minutes.
4. Gift Bingo: You make out "bingo" cards for everyone ahead of time, and have the guests fill each space with a gift they think the mother will get. The first person to get bingo wins.
I'm sure there are others that I know, but I can't remember right now. At my bridal shower, they had people address the envelopes too, I think. They also passed around a book for advice for me. If someone or the mother quilts, you might consider getting a large square for the center of the quilt and let everyone sign it (and write something else if there is room) in a fabric pen, and then you can make something out of it. I know some people have done this with paper and framed it too...

Re: Baby Shower ideas
I did a variation on the "guess the baby food game". It was hysterical and generated great pictures.
Instead of passing around the jars...dump some of the baby food into newborn size disposable diapers. People have to smell the diaper to guess the baby food. The diapers are numbered with a felt tip pen on the outside. To make it really work well...put the baby food in the diaper about a half-hour before you actually do the game. The diaper will pull the moisture from the food into the diaper. You will be left with dry "turdlike" baby food.
I made pacifiers from candy which were strung on ribbons and hung around everyone's neck. Like some of the other games listed before...if someone said the word "baby"...they got your pacifier (and any others that you may have collected during the party.)
To make the pacifier you need two white Lifesaver candies and one pink jelly bean (regular size...not a Jelly Belly). Hot glue the two Lifesavers so that they are perpendicular to each other. One of them will be going around horizontally and the other one is going around vertically. Then glue the jelly bean on the bottom side of the horizontal Lifesaver. Put the ribbon through the vertical pacifier.
Does that make sense?

Re: Baby Shower ideas
here's one that I haven't seen anyone mention..........my sister did it at hers
get the little plastic easter eggs, and the tiny babies that could possibly go on a cake-they have to fit in the egg-put water in the egg, just enough to cover the baby. put in the freezer and freeze. at the shower, everyone gets an egg. the object is to "give birth" or "hatch" your baby first. you have to melt the ice to "hatch" the baby. keep paper towels nearby, cause once they start melting, you will need them. We had people shaking them, holding them up close and breathing on them........it was hilarious!!! THE ICE HAS TO BE COMPLETELY melted to win!!!
good luck!
