Is cause of death public record?
I would like to find out how cause of death for a person....is it public records and how do I find it out? Thanks. :-)

I think it may vary from state to state, but in Oklahoma death certificates are public record UNLESS the death is under investigation.

Dang...this was less than 2 months ago..she lived in Illinois, died at a hospital in St. Louis, MO.....Thanks for helping though.

You might want to call the courthouse in the jurisdiction of her residence, they will know for sure

You can order death certificates for St. Louis county here

I don't know if they require you to be a family member. If she died two months ago and there is any question about the cause of death, her death certificate may not have been issued yet.
In SC cause of death is usually only on the death certificate. You can only request a certified copy of a death certificate if you are a member of the decedent's family or if you are their legal representative.Other applicants may be provided a statement that the death occurred, including the date and county of death (but apparently not cause).
