Unhappy Recommendations Needed; Clothes dryer died last night.

Whirlpool large capacity clothes dryer my dad bought at ABC Warehouse when I bought my house bit the dust last night.

"Another one's gone, another one's gone, another one bites the dust. Hey..."

    Alright enough Queen.

Anyhow, I never liked ABC Warehouse, 'nother story...you know slumlord of the applience market.

I need to replace with a good model and perhaps washer too. Yet another story.

So...what would you recommend? I'm leaning toward front loaders as they use less detergent, water and energy to dry clothes.

    Whirlpool again
    Kenmore
    Maytag
    or other.

Pros, cons too. don't mind but need to decide soon. Like by Monday at latest.

Thumbs up Re: Recommendations Needed; Clothes dryer died last night.

Go with a kenmore and you won't be sorry. I had a Montgomery wards when I was first married and it only lasted 3 years. When it went out I talked to alot of my neighbors and they had kenmores. Lady across the street had hers 15 yrs and the one next door had hers 17 yrs. That sold me. I haven't ever regretted my choice. They are very good machines. Don't bother taking out the extra warranty because you won't need it at all.
I've had two sets and the first lasted around 15 yrs and the one I have now is going on 16 yrs.

Re: Recommendations Needed; Clothes dryer died last night.

we have a kenmore front loading washer. we've only had it for a couple of months, so I can't give any reviews on how long it has lasted, but I have to say that we really enjoy it. We have the HE3 and cannot believe how much clothing it holds! I will put my king size feather comforter in there w/ no problem! It's nice b/c I hate and pretty much refuse to go to a laundramat unless absolutely necessary. My only issue w/ it is since it's a front loader I can't find stray clothing and just pop open the lid and drop it in. I'm really good at that, too! But it does conserve a lot of water and is SO quiet! They do come w/ pedestals for like $300 for the pair and the sales person kept trying to sell them to us. You can put some storage in them, but we didn't have a need for them, plus w/ the laundry room under the steps we didn't want to cut it so close to the ceiling. But they guy told us that if you didn't have them the washer would bang against the floor... i highly doubt that, like they would build something that would purpousley bang against the floor, they just wanted that extra money that would raise them up a bit and we're both still young and have no probs bending over. SO... we didn't get them and both appliances work very well. Also, when my friend was doing research, they got very good reviews and are the most popular washers and dryers out there. Hope that helps, sorry about all the babble.

Thank you Shannykitty. Your info helps very much. Just want to make sure I'm thinking right when I make my final purchase.

We have had a Whirlpool washer and dryer now, for at least five years without any trouble. I believe they were purchased at Walter's Home Appliance (Detroit area). My mom recommended Walter's as the prices are great. We always purchase the extra warrantly on appliances, which has come in handy for the huge upright freezer we purchased a year ago. The upright freezer decided to die, after only a year. Walter's replaced it without any hassle. The warrantly was maybe $100 extra dollars for 3-4 years.

I also agree to go w/ the kenmore. My mom STILL has the washer and dryer she bought 17 years ago

I would go with a kenmore as well. My family has used them for years always bought at Sears. They last a long time

I have this Kenmore dryer (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...&subcat=Dryers) and I love it! It has a Wrinkle Guard feature that switches to cool air and prevents the clothes from wrinkling. It's excellent!

Kenmore Elite HE3 washer and Kenmore Elite HE4 dryer.

Twice the price I wanted to pay but should be worth the money. $1,099 for the washer, $850 for the dryer. Also got the extended warrantee just in case. Even so the $300 for 5 years of service at no charge or replacement if it can't be fixed should do if one or the other decides to croak anytime over the 5 years.

Sears is installing on Monday and taking the old stuff with them.

Mom & dad learned the hard way...do not buy a $50 one on the side of the road!
