Ever-expanding, all-female arts extravaganza will showcase painting, sculpture, installations, collage, music, dance, and culinary delights.
Venus Envy, a St. Louis, Missouri-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women through the arts, is proud to announce the 7th annual Venus Envy visual, performing and culinary arts celebration, taking place throughout the month of April. This historic and spectacular cultural event was founded in St. Louis in 1999 and has since expanded to include three sister cities – Memphis, Baton Rouge, and the Davenport, Iowa – all located along the Mississippi River.
Venus Envy 2005 St. Louis will explode with music, art, dancing, food and more on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 from 7 p.m. until midnight in “The Grove” (4140, 4146 and 4162 Manchester). Venus Envy 2005 Memphis takes place Saturday, April 2 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Sleeping Cat Studio (340 ½ Madison Avenue). Venus Envy 2005 Baton Rouge happens Saturday, April 9 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Oculus Gallery (421 Third Street), while Venus Envy 2005 Quad Cities, the latest geographical expansion, makes its debut on Saturday, April 23 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the new Bucktown Center for the Arts (225 East Second Street, Davenport).
Venus Envy’s annual art exhibits are renowned their eye-popping array of media, styles and content. In addition to showcasing the visual arts, Venus Envy is committed to highlighting the performing arts; Venus Envy events always include a showstopping lineup of all-female bands, poets, bellydancers, firebreathers, and storytellers.
This year, Venus Envy 2005-St. Louis – the original and longest-running event – expands to two nights in order to better accommodate the thousands of guests who turn out for the event. The St. Louis event also adds a new artistic component this year – food! Food and drink have always been an important element at Venus Envy events, adding to the multi-sensory experience which captivates the large crowds in attendance. The new Culinary Arts program in St. Louis provides a new and unique opportunity for Venus Envy to empower women through the arts by inviting female chefs and culinary artists to showcase their talents alongside the visual and performing artists.
All Venus Envy events are open to the public There is a $5-$10 suggested donation per person for Venus Envy 2005-St. Louis and Venus Envy 2005-Baton Rouge. VenusEnvy 2005-Memphis is selling $8 tickets in advance and $10 tickets at the door, benefiting the Venus Envy Memphis Scholarship Fund.
