POLL : Plans on New Year's Eve

We have a party at my In Laws - fireworks, dancing, music, movies in one room for the kids, games in another ... everybody brings food & munchies

    What are you planning ?

    ------------------

    Party Progression

    Festivity Level 1:

Your guests are chatting amiably with each other, admiring your Christmas-tree ornaments, singing carols around the upright piano, sipping at their drinks and nibbling hors d'oeuvres.

    Festivity Level 2:

Your guests are talking loudly -- sometimes to each other, and sometimes to nobody at all, rearranging your Christmas-tree ornaments, singing "I Gotta Be Me" around the upright piano, gulping their drinks and wolfing down hors d'oeuvres.

    Festivity Level 3:

Your guests are arguing violently with inanimate objects, singing "I can't get no satisfaction," gulping down other peoples' drinks, wolfing down Christmas tree ornaments and placing hors d'oeuvres in the upright piano to see what happens when the little hammers strike.

    Festivity Level 4:

Your guests, hors d'oeuvres smeared all over their naked bodies are performing a ritual dance around the burning Christmas tree.

    The piano is missing.

You want to keep your party somewhere around level 3, unless you rent your home and own firearms, in which case you can go to level 4. The best way to get to level 3 is egg-nog.

I will probably be right here at BBS listening to my headset with the rock music jammin' real loud. I think the kids have plans. I'll also finish off the little bit of rum and eggnog left from Christmas. I wiggle in my chair and call that dancing. If no one is here, I can stand up and get "jiggy"

Re: POLL : Plans on New Year's Eve

Cooking and cleaning. My side of the family will be having our Christmas dinner New Years Day. First Christmas without our mom ( she went home to be with the Lord Nov. 20,2004). Say a prayer that God will give us the strength to get thru it.

God Bless ALL with a safe and Happy New Year!

Planning a cheap New Year's date
    By Margot Carmichael Lester

Whether it’s your kids, alimony or plain old poor economic times that have you on a tight budget, you may not be able to party like it’s 1999 this New Year’s Eve. But that doesn’t mean you can’t create a fun and fulfilling New Year’s date. You just need to be creative – with your ideas and your finances.

Here are some tried-and-true tips that will give you plenty of celebratory bang for your tightly-stretched buck.

    For group gatherings:

    Take Pot Luck.
Instead of footing the bill for a swell party, invite some friends to share the wealth. Ask your pals to bring a dish or beverage. To further reduce the cost, make it appetizers-only or tapas.

TIP: To ensure a good variety of dishes, limit the number of entrees, desserts and appetizers. Also, be sure to allow for your friends’ dietary restrictions.

Have a Contest. Invite your guests to vie for the blue ribbon in a cook-off of some kind. Chili is always popular. You provide bread and beverages. Create score cards ranking specific qualities such as heat, seasoning, or overall taste and award a fun prize (maybe a kooky calendar or antacid).

Wine or Beer Tasting. Celebrate the spirits of the season with a tasting party. Guests bring bottles of wine, champagne, or six packs of their favorite beer. You make (or buy) hors d’oeuvres and palate cleansers like crackers, which are both effective and cheap. Again, create a score card (you can download a good one from finedinings.com) and let the games begin!

TIP: You can get plastic wine glasses in bulk at many warehouse stores or from a restaurant/catering supply store. Choose smaller sizes to encourage tasting, not guzzling. And don’t forget to have a taxi service or other designated driver on standby for guests who might overindulge.

Take It Outside. Instead of hosting a get-together at your place, find a bar or restaurant that’s offering a holiday happy hour or all-you-can-eat dinner hour. Ask folks to meet you there and dig in at a discount.

    For intimate interactions:

    Sing for Your Supper.
If you can’t afford a gourmet dinner, find a friend who’s a great cook and offer to trade his/her culinary expertise for one of yours. Maybe you’re an accounting or auto repair genius, or you’re a whiz at landscaping or laundry? Then you can pour your limited finances into a good bottle of champagne.

Amplify the Ambience. Even ramen noodles taste better with good lighting and mood music. If you don’t have loads of cash to prepare a top-notch meal, focus on the surroundings. Pick up some nice candles to create warm, romantic surroundings. Download some of your partner’s favorite tunes and burn a mix CD.

TIP: Stop by the thrift shop and pick up two fancy dinner plates, two salad or dessert plates, and a nice champagne flute or two. It’s fine if they don’t match, as long as they’re complementary. You often can find old lace napkins in good condition, too.

Dinner in Bed. Figure out something you both like and cook it together. Slip on your best lingerie (and if you don’t have any, use the money you’re saving on a fancy dinner out and buy some) and have dinner in bed.

you need an other option. i'm pregnant so partying and dancing doens't sound appealing but i'm certainly not going to bed early. it will for me just be an ordinary night
