It started snowing here, the first time in 150 years that snow has accumulated on the ground in Houston. WE have almost an inch on the ground and it is still coming down. WHOHOOOO my kids have been out actually throwing snowballs. It is the first snow my 18 year old has ever seen. Just had to share!!!!!

How exciting for you and your kids seeing snow. Hope you took pics for your family album. I remember back in the 70's in Tampa, FL when it snowed less than an inch. Many in the neighborhood were outside in slippers, jammies, robes making snowballs, even the senior citizens on the block. And this was around 6 am. Most of them had never seen snow.

HeHe, it started snowing yesterday here in Southeast Houston. I was working at Wal-Mart and had to go outside to check on the basket pushers when it started snowing. One man started dancing around like a little kid, it was hilarious. It is amazing to see snow in Houston ... especially since it decided to wait until Christmas Eve to snow, how perfect. I don't know about it being 150 years since snow accumilated in Houston because I am 22, and when I was around 5 it snowed here enough to make snowmen so I don't think it has been that long. But anyway, I have been taking pictures all around our backyard because I know this won't happen for a long long long time. I remember as a little kid wishing for a white Christmas ... well, i'm still a kid at heart and loving it right now. God Bless and Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

Re: It's Snowing In Houston Texas!!!
well...I guess the news media over exaggerated a bit on the 150 years, but we did wake up this morning to see it still on the ground. We were all out in in it till almost midnight. Lots of neighbors , everyone taking pictures. There is just something about snow, what can I say. I heard that Bay City got almost 8 inches. They are right by the coast. Talk about weird!!!
Last Christmas it was warm and we were all wearing short sleeves and no jackets.
WE almost froze in here last night, but I keep telling everyone,,,,no heater!!! Enjoy the cold while it last!! Our temps on Wed are suppose to be in the 70's again. yuck

maybe they meant it hadn't snowed at Christmas for 150 years. When it snowed in 1973 it wasn't Christmas time.

Small Texas town sees first white Christmas in 86 years
By George Tuler
South Texas awoke to a rare blanket of snow, when up to 13 inches shattered records for the region. The deep freeze brought Victoria, Texas, its first white Christmas in 86 years and snarled holiday plans for thousands of travelers.
"It's totally snowed over," Tawnya Evans, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, said Saturday. "It's unusual to see that here."
"A bunch of people are excited because it's a white Christmas."
The snow was expected to melt as temperatures warmed into the 30s and 40s throughout Christmas Day, but Evans said some of it could refreeze overnight.
Conditions on Indiana highways were improving Saturday, two days after a winter storm dumped up to two feet of snow in some areas, followed by subzero temperatures.
Indiana State Police said Interstate 65 near Seymour was still slick in spots on Saturday, but traffic was moving. They said almost all highways in southern Indiana were still covered by snow or ice.
The wintry mix caused hours-long delays on I-65 about midway between Indianapolis and Louisville, on Friday, when several semitrailers were jackknifed or stuck.
Authorities reopened a portion of Interstate 64 from the Illinois state line to Evansville in southwestern Indiana Friday, a day after more than 100 stranded travelers were rescued from their snowbound vehicles, which hampered snow and salt trucks from clearing the highway, police said.
A few small churches in rural areas of south-central Indiana canceled Christmas services, while even more called off Christmas Eve services to keep parishioners off the treacherous roadways.
Parts of Louisiana saw a slightly white Christmas, and freezing rain, sleet and low temperatures forced state police to shut down interstates and state highways on Saturday.
Still, AAA predicted a record 62 million people, including about 51 million motorists, would be traveling this weekend and next, when New Year's Eve also falls on a weekend. "We feel it's attributed to consumer confidence being up and people feeling more comfortable traveling post Sept. 11," national AAA spokeswoman Aymee Ruiz said Saturday.
Hundreds of passengers traveling to Tampa International Airport late Friday arrived before their luggage, which didn't get in until Christmas Day, spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan said. Couriers were trying to deliver about 400 to 600 suitcases that had been stored in the baggage-claim area overnight, she said. The problem mostly affected travelers on Delta Air Lines and US Airways, she said.

Re: It's Snowing In Houston Texas!!!
I think it's just crazy! It snowed in Corpus Christi, too... some kind of Christmas miracle if you ask me.. lol. Hadn't snowed there in just as long as Houston. And here I am in Virginia, where it had just snowed last Monday and my family got my Christmas snow in Corpus.. lol. My brother and sisters loved it, tho. Of course the next day, it was already half melted, but definitely something everyone there won't forget.
Edited to say, our snow's coming down now.. a day late.

Re: It's Snowing In Houston Texas!!!
Hey all,
I was in Corpus for the snow...my brother in law looked outside and told me it was snowing I told him he was full of you know what...when I went to buy gas the girl working was just staring outside...and she asked me "Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?".....well growing up in Northern NY my reply was "Yes actually I have seen 8 ft tall snowbanks"....she though I was completely off my rocker...she was 35 and had never seen snow before....my five year old wrote to santa and asked for a white christmas I told her it was wishful thinking...hey what the heck do I know.... Chrismas eve she told me she was going to believe in Santa forever cause he brought her snow at grandmas house...I hope everyone had a good weekend if you had snow or not
