Need suggestions from Moms of toddlers
My grandson Ian is 2 (3 in May). DH and I were planning to get him a John Deere tractor powerwheels for christmas since Ian is crazy about tractors.
We got him a motorcycle powerwheels for christmas last year, I don't really want to get him the same type of gift two years in a row.
When I talked to his mom a couple of weeks ago, she said he loved books more than anything.
When my kids were small, they had read along books that came with a cassette tape. The tape made a sound to let them know when to turn the page, etc. I don't guess they still make them or at least I can't find them.
I'm thinking about getting him a My First LeapPad and as many books as I can find to go with it.
I thought those of you with toddlers would know a lot more about what kind of toys are out there and what kids that age like.
Any suggestions?

My daughter got her LeapPad last Christmas when she was 2 and she still loves it @ 3. There are so many good books out there that she's never bored with it.
Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless

Re: Need suggestions from Moms of toddlers
My neice and nephew LOVE thier LeapPads. I was also going to suggest that you could get him a Little Tikes or StepOne pedal tractor that comes with the wagon. My youngest son had a Little Tikes one and LOVED it. He is 10 and still talks about his tractor.

Savings bonds are always nice too. Kids get so many toys and then they break or they outgrow them. Don't get me wrong, toys are good and work muscles and minds. But bonds can be $25, $50, whatever you can afford. Get one for birthdays, Christmas, etc. They add up thru the years. Should even be enough to pay for a year of college someday. Just a thought. Get a book to go with it

The boys love their Leap Pad, too. I have found & bought the cassette/dvd with books at Target and also at the Dollar Stores...

Re: Need suggestions from Moms of toddlers
Thanks Nana, is a good idea. He draws a monthly surviors benefit SS check from DS's death that his mom puts in a college account every month, by the time Ian is 18, college will be taken care of.
The more I look into the LeapPad, the more I like the idea....I was always one of those boring mamas who tended to buy educational toys for my kids, so I'm relieved it's something kids actually like to play with. I'm so glad Ian is drawn to books like his daddy was.
cpbaby, thanks for the little tykes idea, that will make DH happy....he's a typical guy who likes toys as much as a kid does. I had to drag him away from bicycles when we went to wallyworld last weekend....big bicycles that Ian would have to wait years to ride.

I love the leap pad idea too, I'm thinking of getting that for my 2 year old. Another suggestion is this....John Deere dealerships sell the little metal pedal tractor with the little pull behind wagon also...they are probably a little spendy, but last through the generations. Just a suggestion.

I think the Leap pads are a great idea, but if you want to find the books with the tapes to go with them, you could look at the educational websites that the schools order from. I teach pre-school and we have plenty of those books in our room. Lakeshore is one place you could try.
