    Best shampoo/conditioner

Hi everyone.. I need a little help. My hair is dry and damaged and i'm looking for a brand of shampoo and conditioner that can help repair and protect my hair from getting this way again. I barely ever use a blowdryer or curling iron, don't use styling products except once in a great while and my hair still ends up straw - like. Even after I get it cut, w/in a week, I see a ton of split ends. I've tried lots of products and hoped for some recommendations from people on the board so I'm not buying more useless shampoo and conditioners. I also do not dye my hair that often, maybe once a year for fun.. Any suggestions/reccomendations will be appreciated. TIA

I use Garnier Fructis, and it has really helped my hair. It is much smoother and softer and not so damaged.

My stylist reccomends that you do not use conditioner in the shower. Bathe and wash your hair in the shower.
He said to wash your hair and gently towel dry. Leave it pretty damp but not dripping.
Wet your hands, and place a small amount (about the size of a nickle) of conditioner in your hands and rub into your hair. Get as close to the scalp as possible. Then, blow dry or comb as you wish. But do not rinse the conditioner out.

He did not offer a name or type of conditioner, just the method.

I swear by Clairol Renewel 5x. My daughter has extremely curly hair and put a straightner on it and it fried her hair. The salon wanted me to spend $25.00 for a bottle of some kind of conditioner to fix it and I just couldn't afford it. So I found the Renewel 5x at Target for around 2 bucks and it did the job. You can get it at Walmart for about $1.89.

I swear by Dove for both products, I am 52 and have almost waist length hair, so any product that can keep my hair from being nasty looking is great, and Dove is the only one I have found.

I use Infusion 23 shampoo and conditioner, along with the Infusion leave in corrective lotion on the ends. My hair has curl and tends to frizz, and this helps alot. I also will use Pantene curl lock hair spray while my hair is still wet to futher combat the frizz.

If changing shampoo and conditioners does not work it could be your nutrition.

Eating healthy and taking suppliments will help.

I just thought of something else. When sleeping our hairs are rubbing against each other and rip and split even more. They make special pillow cases that reduce hair friction, they are very slickery and super soft. Try braiding you hair at night or putting it in some cloth covered or ouchless pony tail holders every two inches or so to the ends of your hair. Braid loosly and do not put pony tail holders in tight or you will break hair more. You want to keep the hair bound just enough to reduce the friction.

I used to have hair to my waist and it took tremendous effort to keep it healthy and looking good. About once a week I would also rub a few drops of extra virgin olive oil in my hands and get it warm. I would start at the ends of my hair and gently finger it through my hair while my hair was clean and damp. It seemed to help seal in some moisture. I did not wash it out becasue I only used a tiny bit and when my hair dried over night you couldn't tell I had used any, my hair was not oily or anything.

I have this problem... serious straw head. Part of it is because it's curly (or so I've been told), cause the oil doesn't travel down my hair as fast as it would on someone w/ straight hair.

Anyways, I tried everything, from the expensive crap in salons to the expensive stuff at walmart to the cheap suave 'if you can't tell why should we' crap... the ONLY thing that has helped is switching to Aussie 'normal' shampoo (the stuff for dry hair only made it greasy) and I stopped using conditioner all together... once in a great while (or more often if I spend lots of time in the pool) I use hot oil treatments but I swear, I went 3 whole months w/out getting straw head after my last cut since switching to Aussie.

I love Clairol Daily Defense and Infusium23. I never use the same shampoo or conditioner for long though b/c it seems like my hair becomes immune to it lol.

Mine is the same way. If I use the same shampoo for more than 3 or 4 months then my hair starts looking like the shampoo isnt working or something. I thought I was the only one like that and that it was something I was doing.

Pantene is the only kind I can use. If I do use any other kind {even the store brand that is supposed to be just like pantene} I can NOT even run my fingers thought my hair. My hair is like straw I hate it. I have to use pantene, I also use a leave in conditioner and I sometimes use the VO5 leave in stuff for when it is really frizzy.

People wonder why I always have my hair in a ponytail lol
