Thread: have you ever ended up pregnant while you were on bithcontrol pills ?

I know this is a stupid question but is it possible at all to be on birthcontrol pills and have your period and still be pregnant? I have heard so many different answers this is the first time I have ever been on birthcontrol pills so Iam just not excatly sure how it works and if it is true how long should you wait to take a test? again Iam sorry if this sounds stupid at all I just can't stop thinking about it if you did get pregnant while on birthcontrol please tell about it. tia

Well.. it's not impossible. If you take your pills same time, every day you're pretty safe but of course, nothing is 100%. If you missed a pill or two, you're probably fine, I think it's after 3 when you gotta use a back up method. If it's a normal period, I wouldn't even worry about it. It's when it's shorter or lighter than usual when you gotta worry. But if it makes you feel any better, take a test. You're supposed to wait a couple days after you've missed your period but if you're on it now and think you're pregnant, you could take a test and I'm sure if you are pregnant, it'll come up positive instead of a false negative.

If you take antibotics while on the pill, I think they can decrease the way the pills work. So, it is not a dumb question. Nothing is 100% fool proof when it comes to b/c.

Certain medications (RX and OTC) can lessen the effectiveness of the pill. Antibiotics is a big one. Muscle relaxers too.

My mom had 2 pill babies. Both of my brothers were conceived while she was on the pill. She took it regularly, same time every day, didn't miss any, etc. With the first one she had taken a couple muscle relaxers (not both at the same time). Not sure how the second one got here.

My mom got pregnant with my brother while she was on the pill. She kept telling the doctors that she was pregnant but they did 3 urine tests and they all came up neg , so they told her to keep taking the pills. She took them for 4 more months until she finally had a blood test done and found out she was pregnant.

All three of my babies were "pill" babies. With the first one, I was working major overtime(16 hour days, 6 days a week for 2 months straight) and the OB told me that my body was so tired, it just didnt absorb the hormones. The second one, my GYN changed my pills in the middle of my cycle, as in I was in the middle of week two and I was told to stop taking those and start taking this new kind IMMEDIATELY. That wasnt a good idea, let me tell you. THEN, I was on the Ortho Tri-Cyclen for 10 years, no problems, had some ankle swelling that wouldnt go away. Due to a family history of kidney problems I went to the doctor to make sure my kidneys were working right. I gave a urine and a blood sample. They came in the examination room, asked when my next period was due, I said "Today or tomorrow", the nurse left the room, then the doctor came in and asked me again when it was due, I said the same thing, he got this funny look on his face and said the words that changed my life "Actually, you probably wont. We did two tests just to make sure and you are pregnant." I almost fell off the table.

I was not on any type of drugs- no antibiotics, no muscle relaxers, no nothing. BUT, as my OB told me later, the pill is only like 98.9% effective when taken religiously(which I did)That leaves 1.1% failure rate and I was the "lucky" one.

I got pregnant with my oldest while I was on the pill. And I took them FAITHFULLY everyday. I was just out of high school and planned on going to school for my nursing,so I wanted to be sure nothing interferred(sp) with my going. But it happened and he's one of the reasons my life is great.

Three of my four kids are birth control babies. With my first I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was 5 months along. After my last baby, I had my tubes tied. I took my pills faithfully everyday, did everything I was supposed to do and still ended up pregnant. No matter what I thought I wanted, someone had other plans. I may not have planned them but they are blessings. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

ok this month i was on the patch.
the last 2 cycles i did the pill ( i ran out of patches on my perscription and i had two pill packs in my medicine cabinet ) well being on the patch the year b4 i kinda forgot to take some pills in a row... and no i didnt use back up...ehhhh

got my periods... fine.. did a preg test... neg...

did the patch this month. (as you can tell i have a tendency to forget things thank god for the patch)

ok i put on some weight in the last month and a half. i thought it was the twinkies.... (they were on sale half price! )

getting my ususal twings that i am getting my period this week.


question for me is this if i am pregnant (with a neg on a test last month i doublt it ) but if i was i wonder if being on the patch would harm the fetus...

YES you can , I got pregnant w/ my last child while on the pill. The stupid doctor said it should not have happend since he has never heard of it. I was like WTH and your a doc. ....
