Weird question, but anyone ever had a black discoloration under a nail?
I'm the type of person that freaks out if I think something is wrong with me & I have noticed a black discoloration under my toenail that has not gone away for at least a couple of months now. I'm starting to get worried since I read up & found out that this type of discoloration COULD be a form of skin cancer called melanoma. It's not real dark, but if anyone has ever had this or has any advice I'd appreciate it. TIA

It could also be a blood blister. Did you injure your toe at some point? Is it growing out with your toenail or does it stay in one place?
Some mornings it's not worth the effort of chewing through the restraints.

I am no clumbsy( is that how you spell it ). I have broken all my toes at least once. I will stub my toe on anything and everything ( it is easy to do running after so many kids LOL ) I get the blood blisters under my toe nails for a few months and then as it dries up it will become hollow under the nail and stay that way untill that part of the nail grows out. its now painful and its not an infection but just paint your nails and wait....thats all the advice I have.

My toenails are always discolored from going barefoot in the yard. I just keep nail polish on them and no one sees them. They look dirty but it's just stain. Does your toe hurt at all. You can always ask the pharmacist what it might be if you don't want to pay for a doctor visit.

If it's a blood blister(AND if it hurts), just sterilize a needle with a lighter, then while it's still hot put it on the spot, it will work like a small soldering iron, and burn a hole thru the nail(you won't feel it) then the blood can drain out and relieve the pressure, but if it doesn't hurt , I'd leave it alone.

I have broken a few toes, mostly on my right foot. about 2 years ago, the nail on my big toe started looking funny. i went to the er, cause my toe was hurting and they said it was some kind of infection, it's the one where the nail get thick and dark, and when it gets well the nail comes off. i forgot the name of it. have you ever seen the commerical where the infection has a party with his friends under the toe nail. that's the one i had. sorry this is the only way i can remember it.
