Question Question about Bacon...

Yeah - this is kinda odd...

I live alone and occassionally like bacon in my homemade chicken salad or on wraps. I know turkey bacon is healthier and I prefer it to regular bacon if i'm eating it by itself. I don't really like it in other things. (hope that makes sense). Well, I hate wasting food - so when I buy a package of the real stuff I feel the need to eat all of it in a week - which is really unhealthy and then I feel guilty. I know you can freeze the raw bacon in portions - which I could do. Here's the question - can you freeze the precooked microwavable bacon? Does it still taste ok?

thanks!

Re: Question about Bacon...

Does it say anywhere on the back of the box? I dont see why you couldnt freeze it as long as you let it thaw before putting it in the microwave.
As for regular packages of bacon, Cut the whole package in half and wrap up the pieces in like a package of 4 then freeze it. They'll stay good for a long time and that way you'll only be cooking what you need. The real stuff you can cook when its frozen too.

Re: Question about Bacon...

Some of the stores here have the pre-cooked bacon in the freezer section anyway. My inlaws buy a big case of it and keep it in the freeze and take out just the right amount of strips, they don't even thaw it out before heating in the microwave and it taste great.

Re: Question about Bacon...

You can also cook all of your bacon, then freeze it. Pull out strips as you need them, its a lot cheaper to buy than pre cooked bacon.

Re: Question about Bacon...

looks like you all ready got your answer. but i also wanted to tell you to check the nutrition info on your turkey bacon before you pay more money for it over regular bacon. it's not always better, sometimes it has just as much fat and cholesterol as pork. i buy ground pork sausage and i thought i could get ground chicken or turkey and it'd be healthier and the one actualy was worse than the pork.

if you buy the normal bacon you have to cook take it apart piece by piece and lay it seperated on the new press and seal plastic, than place a sheet over it and press inbetween each piece and than freeze. that way you can take out just one piece at a time from your freezer

Re: Question about Bacon...

I am not a dietician, but I would think you could cook the bacon, then freeze it individual 1/2 slices. Then quickly reheat in the microwave.
