Help save Terri's life!--PLEASE READ!
On Oct. 15, the Florida state courts have ordered that the feeding tube keeping Terri Schindler-Schiavo be removed. She will strave to death-legally.
11 years ago, Terri suffered a heart attack, which caused severe damage to her body and mind. According to x-rays, Terri suffered a massive heart failure due to a severe beating. She had multiple broken bones, injuries, and fractures of the neck and collarbone consistent with strangulation.
Her husband had a history of abusing Terri, he now serves as her legal guardian, he says she is a vegetable, and she wouldn't want to lives this way. He says it will be a mercy to let her die.
This woman he calls a vegetable is awake, she knows and responds to her mother and family. She can talk and follow the directions issued by a physician. Whenever her husband visits, she shows extreme terror at the sight of him. He keeps asking the nurses, "When is the B@tch going to die?" He has refused to allow her to have any therapy, or to have a swallow test. Why? Because if she can swallow on her own, he cannot put her death.

I have been following this case on CNN. At no time has it ever been said that her husband beat her. She had a massive heart attack and suffered brain damage. Her feeding tube is set to be removed on October 15, 2003.
Here is the latetst CNN article about it.

According to the doctors, non court appointed ones, who examined her and reviewed her x-rays, her injuries are consistent with those resulting from a severe beating. It was also a known fact between her family and friends that he was abusive. The CNN article refers to her as "comatose" when she is not.She responds to directions and shows emotions and can tell the nurses when she is in pain. It also relates that doctors said that she could not recover even if rehabilitation. I would like to know how this conclusion was met when no therapy was ever attempted. I would not believe everything CNN reports. Feel free to check out her site, they have the x-rays, affidavits by nurses and other experts that offer a very different view.

The sad thing about this case is it is a he said/she said case. Her parents say one thing, the husband says another. If, he beat her to the point where she had a heart attack she would have had bruises on her. If she was brought into a hospital in that condition the police would have been called in. She has been this way for 16 years and they haven't ever publicly accused him of abusing her. That doesn't make sense to me.
I saw the part on her site that had the medical imaging report. The imaging report is from 1993, why has her family never pressed charges or gone to the police if they think she was abused.
I feel bad that she is going to die, but if she didn't want to live this way then she shouldn't be made to.

Oh boy, that poor woman. This is definitely a sticky situation

If I am ever in that condition I hope someone pulls the plug and doesn't wait that many years.

Maybe the family will press charges if he convinces the doctors to pull the plug. He better slow down or he may be in jail. Some abuse cases can never be proven though. Wish she could talk.

I guess the thing that bothers me most about this is that there's is only the husband's word that she would have wished to die. There's no living will providing for this matter. If I were in her situation, I would want to live, especially if rehab had not been tried. If it were my husband or my child, I would never give up trying to help them recover. If I were on a breathing machine or was brain dead, then I would say let me die. However, she is not. As to whether or not she was abused, I can say that those things can be hidden for a long time. There's a lot of injury that can be done to a person that is not visible on the skin. Perhaps she did have bruises and they weren't reported, perhaps this is new information the family found out.I don't know. I think what this really is, is a quality of life question. Who decides what a person's quality of life is? Would I want someone to decide for me? Or If it was an infant who had brain damage, but could breathe and respond to its parents, I wonder if the parents would choose to let it starve to death. Thanks for the replies.

THIS IS A VERY SAD SITUATION NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT.
BUT WHO ARE WE TO PLAY GOD ??
ARE WE PLAYING GOD BY BEING HER FAMILY & KEEPING HER ALIVE ?
ARE WE PLAYING GOD BY BEING HER HUSBAND & THE JUGDE BY
HAVING THE TUBE REMOVED ??
ARE WE PLAYING GOD BY SIGNING A PETITION ??
I BELIEVE WE CAN SAY WHAT WE FEEL IS RIGHT OR WRONG.
BUT, I CANNOT TAKE A PART IN PLAYING GOD.
I WILL PRAY FOR HER, PRAY FOR GOD'S WILL TO BE DONE.
