Question What is shocking to you in American culture?

I need ideas again.....What is the most shocking thing to you in American culture?
I have to do another essay and this is the topic (Can you believe were on our third one with the last 2 not completely finished?)
I know talk shows are with people spilling their guts and extreme sports and even tatoos can be shocking. To me killing and being deceitful is shocking but thats every where. So does anyone have any other ideas I could use? Thanx!!

I'm with CAP. Thinking our kids can watch all the sex on TV and everywhere else, be alone after school and not want to do anything or have any feelings about it. HUH? Adults often can't resist those feelings but we expect kids to. Then we are all shocked when we hear of a 10 year old raping a 4 year old. I'm shocked with the stupidity of adults in our society. Letting kids raise themselves.

Something that is shocking to me is the way our country seems to be turning inward, towards a homogenized society, one that does not really exist, given our history and the makeup of our society. I guess I understand why it happens, even if I don't agree with the motivation, but it's still shocking that it happens in such a diverse country.

I would say the circumsicion of our baby boys. My oldest was done because it "was the thing to do" but my 2 younger ones, no way.

agree with this also. Seems that censorship is nil to none these days.

I find lots of things shocking...

I agree that the sexual images that we are bombarded with are excessive.

I also think that we are bombarded with violent images as well...so much so that our children are becoming immune to them.

I think it is shocking that we are losing our social conscienceness. Being a child of the 60's I am very sensitive to comments which are racially hateful. My children don't even notice. When I point things out as being rascist...I am accused of overdoing the political correctness bit. I happen to believe that there is a difference with being overly politically correct and tolerating rascism.

And, finally, I see a society of people who have no sense of right and wrong. This isn't everyone, of course, but when I hear of young people killing just for the thrill of it...it scares me to think what our society is coming to.

I find it shocking that we can spend billions of dollars on war but bicker and fight when people who are poor and homeless want a little help.
