Arrow Request for my Grandmother, who is fighting Cancer

About 16 years ago my Grandmother found out she had Breast Cancer. She lost one breast but they got rid of all the Cancer. She had been Cancer free all these years. Well in July of 2001 she found out that she had Breast Cancer again. She had surgery in August of 2001 and they believe they got all of that. She had radiation this time around. Well she has gone in for a check up like she is supposed to do & they took exrays, etc. Well they have found that she has Cancer on her Lungs now also. The DR has told her that it is a slow moving Cancer. And that there isn't too much that they can do about it. Eventhough they are still trying.

This lady is the sweetest, most caring person you would ever want to meet. She never asks anything of anyone, but rarely says "no" to anyone either. She does not Smoke, Drink or even drink Coffee or Caffeine. She goes to church every Sunday, says her prayers every day. She lives by the way she was brought up in a Mormon family. She never says anything bad about anyone. But she has had Cancer not just once, but twice & now finds out that she has a slow moving Cancer. It just goes to show that any of us can get Cancer, I suppose.

Anyways. A few years back, before she found out that she had this Cancer my Grandfather kept having Strokes. My Grandmother was unable to take care of him so she had to place him in a Nursing Home. This was very hard for my Grandmother as she has barely ever been on her own since she left home. My grandparents home is out in the Country so she isn't very close to town. She doesn't have too many people that come to see her & all of our family live in other States. Then last year the Sunday before Thanksgiving my Grandfather passed away. Only my Uncle, his Wife & their little boy were able to make it to his Funeral besides one of her Brothers.

I am very worried about her lately she sounds so depressed & lonely. If any one would be willing to send her any words of insipration, get well or anything, PLMK.

You can post here, PM me or email me at mauiorchids@hotmail.com She does not have a computer so you wouldn't be able to email anything to her. TIA

mauiorchid, I just wanted to give you a link where you can have an angel made for your grandmother. They send a nice letter with it. I had one made for my mother and it is real cute. Hope it will give your grandmother some hope when she receives it.
http://www.angelsforhope.com You can also order a butterfly or a smiley face and pick the color you think she might like.

Is anyone in your family trying to get her some help to go in and check on her? If her cancer is not curable she can get on hospice. It's not just for a person who is dying. They come when a person will not get better from their diagnosis.

They supply lots of things. If she is in need of things for her health they will get it and supply it for her. And the nice thing is they have volunteers to go visit people who are alone or need a friend for support.

Can your grandmother get around on her own? If the family never sees her she may be having trouble. Older people need to be checked on regularly cause they can deteriorate so fast. If she gets weak and can't do things then she is just stuck out there in the country by herself. And lots of older people will not tell others when they need help. Pride or fear of losing their independence, but sometimes a care home is best and she will live longer in one.

Stay in touch with her and if she seems confused at all then have someone go help her. I know it's hard when you are not in the same area but the people in your area may be able to contact the right people in her area and get some help for her. The agencies are connected.

I have emailed everyone back so far.

janelle: Thank you. She does have people from hospice that come around. I talked to my mom about it. A lady comes once a week to help her clean her house & then another lady comes a few times a week just to visit with her. They also sent out a few men that helped rebuild my Grandmother's porch & stairs . My mom sent me a picture of them in an email. They did a very nice job. She actually has hand rails now. So that helps her out. Between my mom & I we are going to see what all they can do for her & we are going to get it all set up.

That's great. Hospice is very helpful, I'm glad she has them.
