I have a question regarding swelling
My sister in laws foot has been swelled and red since Thursday. Friday she went to the ER (she has PPO insurance) they gave her antibiotic shot, prescribled Kflex (sp) and benedryl.
she is still very swelled and in pain. what couldof caused this.
she doesn't recall falling, tripping or banging it into anything.
could it be bloodsugar level?
spider bite?
infection from something? like what?
thanks for the help.
oh and the ER told her it should get better in a day or so, advised no follow up or other care.

First of all - if she is diabetic - it could be an infection from a foot ulceration - which needs proper followup medical care. Keflex is usualy a 10 day regimen - and may take a couple of days before results are evident.
Is she running a fever? A sure symptom that there is infection.
There may be a tiny opening in the skin that has become infected - it is possible that she didn't even notice it - especially if there is neuropathy in the feet.
Make sure she follows up with her regular doctor Monday. Infections are nothing to take lightly - if they become systemic you are really asking for trouble

Have I found Mr. Right?
Could be any of those. Does she eat a lot of salt? It could be caused by that as well.

my granny's ankles swell cuz of high blood pressure. She's on meds for it and also diuretics to get rid of the excess water. What helps to bring the ankles down is to keep em up. When laying, have her feet on pillows preferably higher than the heart. Have your SIL get checked by her doc to rule out a serious medical condition.
