If you weren't afraid, what is the ONE thing you would do?
I was in julie's 'Great Quotes' thread and I posted this quote:
"List the things you would do if you weren't afraid. Then do at least one of them." -Julia Sweeney
It made me think what I would list and what I would do.
It used to be flying, but I got over that AFTER 9-11 and I was determined NOT to live in fear. I think I would have to pick something to do with heights. Like sky dive or walk across the Royal Gorge Bridge or ride up one of those elevators on the outside of a skyscraper or something. I really do NOT like heights very much. Other than that, if the opportunity arose, I'd probably do anything. What's the worst that could happen besides the possibility of soiling myself? I'd die? I'm going to do that anyway.
Still thinking on this one.

I was just going to say I would go up to the top of the tallest building I could find and look down. My absolute greatest fear, I think, is heights. My second greatest fear is forgetting to do laundry and running out of clean underclothes

I have never been on a plane. I was scared to fly LONG before 9-11.
I have worked in the zoo, handled snakes and BIG hairy spiders, I know how to "handle" a dog attack, I have learned to confront things which most people *think* would destroy them ... I have mastered public speaking and performing in front of a crowd - although I have to get "psyced" for that.
I guess I would pick "claustophobia" - I went hiking in the mountains with Hubby back when we were dating. He kept wanting to explore every cotton-picking cave we passed ... I was almost hyperventalating just walking under the overhangs !

I thought about it and I have another answer for ya. Don't think I'm nuts, but I still don't know how to drive. I have anxiety, and because of it I have been afraid to learn to drive a car.

I don't think your nuts at all. I do not have a license because I am terrified to take the driving test. I have passed the permit part too many times to count but when it comes to going and taking the driving test,I chicken out. Of course that's only one of the many things I am afraid of. Yup,BIG skeerdy cat here...lol

Raven, I can't swim either. When we were in Mexico last summer, Chuck, Brian, Sarah & Chelle went scuba diving. I laid on the beach and drank lots of cold drinks and read!
Jolie, I was 47 before I flew for the first time. April 2001. 32 minutes of air time from STL to Indy to spend the weekend with Sarah. I had to force myself to do it. I was sick leading up to the day I left and I wasn't sure my legs would walk through that gate. After 9-11 I decided 'nope, life's way too short.' I don't like flying. I will never like it. But I will do it.
Julie girl...you should LEARN to drive! Seriously. I taught my mom when she was 48 years old - after my dad died.

I'm with julie_angel. I have a severe anxiety disorder that for some reason seems to center around cars. I am just dying to get my license, but I am too afraid.

I think it is a combination of a fear of heights and claustophobia ...
What about dentists ?
I am surely not the only one who waits until agonizing pain finally *forces* me to make an appointment ?
