When it rains, it pours!
I'm really stressed out about my college classes. They begin next month and I am really scared that I won't be able to handle it. (fingers crossed I can do this!)
Then, we found out that our landlady wants to sell our house ASAP and we can't get a loan to save our lives! We are in a financial crisis big time right now!
NOW-tomorrow is my grandma's birthday, and she just called from Oregon to tell us that her best friend in the world passed away last night. They have been like sisters since they were in their 20's, and now, Jan is gone. Grandma is DEVASTATED, and really wants my mom to come be with her for a few days, and we have NO WAY to send her. I am heartbroken that I can't help my grandma out by sending my mom there for a few days, to at least help her through the rough first few days.
I checked into last minute airfare, and it's nearly $800!
This is awful!

First, you will do FINE with your classes.
Second, the issue with the house will fall into place.
Third, have you contacted the airlines (does Southwest fly there?) for emergency fares, explain that your GRANDMOTHER died (not just a friend) and your mother needs to get there asap? What about Greyhound or Amtrak, rates are much lower than airfare.

Thanks everyone...I just feel like everything is falling apart right now. I'll look into Amtrack...I don't think we can even scrape up the money for that right now. I know with mom's disabilities, she cannot go greyhound. She was in misery after her last time on the bus. Dang! I just feel so helpless!

Jaybird is right, call the airlines, a friend of mine just did this and got free airfare to get to her grandmother that was passing. They do it during non-peak times (holidays and such), she got round-trip airfare, and got to stay for 5 days-it's worth a shot!

We're calling around right now, and the best bereavement price we can find so far is still over $400 round trip. <sigh> I wish I had something I could pawn or sell!
