Where to donate gently used toys (not Amvets or Salvation Army etc.)
I am overloaded on kids toys!!!!!! I've tried calling some rescue homes and they only want NIP stuff. Do anyof you out there (hopefully around Chicago) know of anyplace that'll accept these toys??

I don't live in Chicago - but here's a few suggestions:
daycares
schools
hospitals
libraries
fire depts
doctor's offices
police depts -for when they take in children who lost a parent or parent is arrested, etc
orphanages
any type of counseling center for kids
boys and girls clubs
ymca's

MerryG has some good ideas I would try almost any agenct that deals with children or families. Especially those in crisis there are agencies that will take them you will just have to keep trying. Sometimes a place only wants NIP because they want the child to feel good about themselves and give them something they can keep. Look into places that have playrooms/playareas for children because the toys periodicly need to be replaced.

How about Women's Shelters? It's almost Christmas and these women and children have had to literally leave behind everything except what they could wear (in most cases). The shelters may get outside help with gifts, but you never know how many will show up at the last minute! And these children also have birthdays, and they just may need new toys there-there are a lot of kids that come through with literally nothing.
I tried to figure out which shelter would be the closest to you-then I decided that it would be easier for you to decide that! So here's a link to all of the shelters in Illinois-they're in alphabetical order!

I hope things are looking up for you and your family!! It's so nice of you to share what you've outgrown with others that really need it!!

I totally agree with Moocher. My aunt sends all over kids clothes and old but gently used toys to the women's shelter in her area, She has been doing this for the past 5 years. They greatly appreciate it! Alot of these women leave with just the clothing the have on, and the kids hardly have anything. Alot of shelters have their own daycares with them so I know they could greatly appreciate your donation!
