Was it Amish Cinnamon Friendship bread? You get a starter and add flour, sugar and milk. It sits most of the time 'cept for some mushing for 10 days. It makes 3 more starters and 2 loaves from whats left. I make 6 loaves every 10 days and give it to all my new tenants and elderly people here. If this is it just email me and I will type out the exact recipe ok? It is soooo good and keeps or freezes great.

Do a search here for Herman. I just posted that recipe in Kai's Old-Fashioned Recipe Thread a few weeks ago, but I have NO idea what page it's on...and the thread is like 175 pages long!

Here, I posted the recipe for the starter, as well as a few recipes that use the starter:

    http://forums.bigbigsavings.com/show...pagenumber=166

    Page 166 of Kai's thread.

    HERMAN STARTER

    2 cups flour
    3 tbsp. sugar

    1 teas. salt
2 cups warm water (105-115 degrees)

In large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt and yeast. Gradually stir in water. Beat or whisk until smooth. Cover with towel; set in a warm, draft-free place (80-85 degrees) Stir 3x's a day for about 3 days, or until starter is bubbly and has a yeasty aroma. Transfer to larger bowl. Cover partly (punch holes or vent lid) Refrigerate.

Makes about 1 1/2-2 cups starter, depending on thickness. Age of starter, room conditions will determine texture.

Use a cup, feed, give a cup away. INFINITY.

    Care & Feeding of Herman

ok "Herman" is not the Amish Friendship Bread recipe. I am emailing it to those who have emailed me asking for it and I will post it here for those that are interested.

    The Recipe

From this recipe you will get 2 loaves of bread and 3 starters that you place in ziploc bags. Do NOT regrigerate!

Important Note: Don't use metal spoons or equipment. Do not refrigerate. Use only glazed ceramic or plastic bowls or containers.

    Required Main Ingredient

    1 cup live yeast starter
( It is available online for 6.50! if you don't have anyone to get it from) Maybe I can priority mail it out to anyone who wants it for the cost of shipping.)

    day 1:
Do nothing with the starter. You can look and talk to it as much as you want!

    days 2-5:
    Mush bag twice a day

    day 6:
Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup milk. Like the experienced musher you have become....mush these together.

    days 7-9:
Mush and let air out of bag twice a day

    Day 10:
    Today is the day!
Add your 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk and stir well. (sorry your mushing days are over!) Take out 3 cups and place 1 cup each into three ziploc bags like the one you received. Give one cup and a copy of this recipe to three friends. To the balance (a little over one cup) of the batter, add the following ingredients and mix well.
    1 cup oil
    1/2 cup milk
    3 eggs
    1 tsp vanilla

In a separate bowl combine the following dry ingredients and mix well:

    2 cups flour
    1 cup sugar
    1-1/2 tsp baking powder
    2 tsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp baking soda
1 - (5.1 oz) box instant vanilla pudding
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup nuts (optional)

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Spray 2 loaf baking pans with Pam and sprinkel with a cinnamon & sugar mixture. Mix and pour into two well greased and sugared bread pans. Sprinkle again with connamon & sugar mixture before baking. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.

    Enjoy!

If someone wants me to send them a starter I think it would be fine for those 1st 2 days because the post office is great at mushing things! LOL
